The family recipe I submitted are scalloped potatoes. Scalloped potatoes can be traced

back to the French, where they were originally referred to potatoes au gratin. Au gratin is when a

food is topped or covered with bread crumbs or grated cheese, and then browned. The French are

very known for browning their food, from their meat to crme brle. Scalloped potatoes are also

browned, but not with cheese or a bread topping. While potatoes au gratin are known for having

cheese in their base, scalloped potatoes have more of an onion and cream base that is browned.

Therefore, scalloped potatoes are known as a more American dish even though its roots trace

back to the French.

The main ingredients for scalloped potatoes include:

Potatoes
Onion
Flour (Gluten Allergy)
Butter (Dairy Allergy/ Lactose Intolerance)
Milk (Dairy Allergy/ Lactose Intolerance)
Salt and Pepper
