Pastors Remarks
Dear Church Family, Happy Mothers Day!

We live in challenging times, socially, politically and even spiritually. I

have recently talked to several of our winter guests who, in essence, talked
about some tough situations they would have to face as they returned to
their home churches. I dont have all the answers for what churches today
are facing. But I do have some thoughts on what I believe will help,
including our church:
1. We need to continue to make the gospel clear. That means we help
people to know that it is what Jesus did on the cross and not by what
they do or dont do. It is because Jesus paid our sin debt that we have
this new life in Him.

2. We need a strong focus on discipleship. We are told to go and make

disciples, not just go and make converts. We have to be continually
growing, as we help others grow. It requires intentionality on our part.

3. Everyone needs to be engaged in ministry and mission, using their

spiritual gifts. Ministry is meeting the needs of those within the local
body; mission is serving outside the four walls of the church.
Inside this issue:
4. Look for ways to reach out to our community. The Holy Spirit is always

at work in the hearts and lives of people. We have to be alert to see
where He is working and join Him. We have to be ready to share the
good news about Jesus as we are given the opportunity. Florida Baptist Childrens 2

5. Be open to change. Gods word never changes. The gospel message Childrens Ministry 3
never changes. Our methods and practices need to change sometimes.
We live in a post-Christian culture and some things will need to change Student Ministry 4
if we are going to reach people with the gospel.

Your support allows us to reach
one more child with
the abundant
love of Christ!
Thanks to your help, we were able
to serve 171,273 children and
families last year.

Florida Baptist Childrens Homes is proud to be celebrating 112 years of helping children and families!
From the opening of our first orphanage in 1904 to our present day ministries that have expanded to
provide safe, stable, Christian homes and services to children and families in need across the state and
around the globe, we are honored to be helping children in tangible ways. Whether its providing clean
diapers to a newborn baby, food for a hungry child, safety for an abused child or foster or adoptive homes
to children in crisis, we work to share with children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned the
protective and healing love of Jesus Christ.
In 2016, Florida Baptist Childrens Homes impacted 171,273 children and individuals through services
provided and through advocacy, training, awareness and volunteering. Each precious child and every
individual included in that number had needs met and experienced the life-changing love of Christ
because of gifts made to our ministry. This was possible only because of Every Gift of Every Size. Will
you join the cause and become a part of our mission to help one more child?

Hello Family,

As this years Super Summer Camp creeps ever closer, I would normally be stressing the need for additional
fundraising scholarships. However, between O2 Caf, 100 Envelopes, and other donations we have succeeded in
raising $10,531.07!!! With this, every student who helped fundraise can be paid in full, as well as a few extra! It
humbles me to be a part of such a giving church. On behalf of the whole student ministry- THANK YOU!

Now that everyone is back to their normal schedules, please continue to lift our students up in prayer. With the
end of the year approaching quickly, our students are facing large amounts of stress and pressure from grade
deadlines, ACT and SAT testing, finals and everything in between.

In addition to starting camp preparations, we are also going to be saying good bye to the class of 2017. On Sunday,
May 21st, we will be honoring this years graduates in our services.
If anyone you know is graduating from high school, college, or trade
school, please call the church office so that we can recognize their
accomplishments on Graduation Sunday. Baccalaureate will also
be held May 24th, the following Wednesday, at the United Methodist
Church at 6:00 PM, and Frostproof Middle Senior High Schools Graduation
Ceremony will be that Friday, May 26th.

In closing, I would offer counsel in an area that has affected me these past few months. Discouragement is a reality
in all ministry. Where people live, sin exists. Where sin exists, problems abound. Where problems abound,
discouragement follows. Discouragement is painful, lonely, ill-timed and ultimately selfish. A most repulsive truth
is that discouragement is me-focused. But it is my desire to tell you that there is hope, and because the God of the
universe is involved, it is plentiful.
The Lord is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do
not be afraid or discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8

Personally, I wish God would use an easier method of maturing us; but many times, for some reason,
discouragement seems to herald success. When discouragement hits you, count on God to use that season in your
life to increase your ministry effectiveness.

Keep fishing,
Bro. Brian
