MATTHEW 16:1718
1 JESUS CHOOSES PETER
(Teach with a Bible in your hand or lap so the children can see it.)
SAY: Today our lesson is found in the Bible in the book of Acts. Do you see the man in the picture that Jesus is talking
to? His name is Peter.
SAY: Peter used to be a fisherman, but Jesus asked him to be one of His disciples.
After Jesus went back to heaven, Jesus gave Peter a very important job to do. He knew Peter could do it! Jesus knew
all about Peter, just as He knows all about us.
SAY: Peter became the leader of the disciples. He helped them share the Good News about Jesus with other people.
ASK: Do you think you would make a good leader for Jesus? What do you know about Jesus that you could tell others?

2 PETER AND THE DISCIPLES PRAY
SAY: Jesus told the disciples to wait until they received a special power from the Holy Spirit to
help them witness.
SAY: That power came to the disciples while they were praying. People from other countries
could listen to the disciples teach and they could understand what they were saying, even
though they didnt speak the same language as the disciples. They were now ready to get the
Good News out.

ACTS 2:4142
5 PEOPLE RECEIVE JESUS
SAY: The day Peter preached was the day a new family began. It was Gods forever family. The
people who took Jesus as their Savior and were baptized became part of this new family.
SAY: These new followers believed:
that Jesus had died on the Cross for them.
that Jesus had risen from the dead on Easter morning.
that He was now in heaven with His Father, and
that one day He would come again.
ASK: Do you believe that is true? Then lets stop and thank God for Jesus and for His forever family.
