Animal Cruelty and Its Consequences

All creatures are deserving of a life free from fear and pain -Maura Cummings

This quote holds true to animals, both pets and wildlife, that have suffered both

physically and mentally because of a persons choice to do so. Their pain is not necessary and it

needs to be taken more seriously. Animal cruelty is abuse and neglect, and consists of a wide

variety of things. Most often they are overlooked and justice is rarely served for the animal. Most

people will turn their head to an animal in need simply because they believe it isnt their

problem or they blame the animal. With everything that weve accomplished in todays age, it

seems that it should be simpler to not be the cause of pain to an animal that is undeserving of it.

I believe that action needs to be taken to those that inflict pain and suffering upon a

helpless animal. Whatever it may be, its necessary. There is no reason that animals should have

to live a life that is so traumatic or hurtful. Animal cruelty and neglect include a variety of things

like starving, hoarding, abusing. Companies thrive off of animal testing. If you see or hear of an

animal being harmed you shouldnt do nothing. Legally, prosecutors always try to serve justice,

however its not always easy.

Animal cruelty includes many things like dog fighting, hoarding, breeding, abusing or

neglecting. Other form is animal testing or farm animal welfare. Dog fighting is when you train

your dog to fight other dogs and most often you win some sort of prize like money. The dogs are

often so badly hurt after, and they could be killed during the fight. Hoarding is when you have

too many animals and you cant properly care for them. They dont get enough food and they

rarely receive love or exercise. This is like farm animal welfare except this is when the animals

live on a farm that is far too crowded. A lot of slaughter farms tend to have their animals living

like this. Breeding is when you breed your animals, most often dogs, and then the mother is

distraught and sick and her puppies get sick and die. Animal abuse doesnt always have to be

deliberate. It can simply be not being able to take care of your animal. It can also mean beating,

shooting or even starving. Animals who suffer long term can also be in just as much pain because

theyve endured a whole life of torture.

Companies have always tested on animals and thankfully there have been less and less

doing that. However, there are many still testing on them. Some of these are Almay, CoverGirl,

Calvin Klein, Mac and many others. There are also zoos and circuses and places like SeaWorld

who make business off of torturing their animals. Luckily, some of these companies have been

fined. Ringling Brothers circus received a fine of $270,000. I dont think it is necessary to test

on animals, especially after all the progress weve made with technology.

Legally, prosecutors try to always ensure that justice will be served, but its not always

that simple. The evidence needs to be convincing enough and it has to be within a certain time

frame. It is unlikely they will be able to do anything if its not brought to trial within a certain

time that they incident has occurred.

Many people agree that its safer to test on animals before releasing a product to the

public. I think that with our technology being so advanced, we should be able to find another

thing to test on like a synthetic robot of some sort. Testing on animals is cruel because it can

leave the animal living in a poor condition. They could end up blind or seriously deformed where

they arent able to live a basic life any longer. They dont get any anesthetics when being tested

on, and they are thrown out like garbage at the end of the day. With a synthetic to test on, we

could reuse and recycle it.

Animal abuse needs to come to an end, and there are things that you can do to prevent or

help an animal in need. When you see an animal being harmed, if you feel brave enough, you

should interfere. However if you dont, its okay, just make sure you call your local animal help

or the police. There are always other options, and saying nothing only adds to the problem. We

need to put an end to animal abuse and punish those who cause it.
