Historical Research
The Second World War began in 1939 and ended in 1945. The conflict began in the Europe and
quickly spread throughout Africa and Asia. A major reason was the emergence in the 1930s in Europe, of
totalitarian governments with militarist and expansionist goals .
The Beginning
The first milestone occurred in 1939 when the German army invaded Poland. Immediately, France
and Britain declared war on Germany. According to the policy of military alliances in the season, formed two
groups: Allies (led by Britain, USSR, France and the United States) and Axis (Germany, Italy and Japan).
This important and sad conflict ended only in 1945 with the surrender of Germany and Italy. Japan,
the last country to sign the treaty of surrender, still suffered a severe attack of the United States, which
turned out atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. An unnecessary action that has killed thousands of
innocent Japanese citizens, leaving a trail of destruction in these cities.
The losses were huge, especially for the defeated countries. It was millions of deaths and injuries,
destroyed towns, industries and rural areas and destroyed incalculable debt. The racism was present and
made a serious wound, especially in Germany where the Nazis sent to concentration camps and killed
about six million Jews.
With the end of the conflict in 1945, they created the United Nations (UN), whose main objective
would be to preserve peace among nations. Also begins a period known as the Cold War, now putting on
opposite sides, the United States and the Soviet Union. A geopolitical struggle between American capitalism
and Soviet socialism, where both countries sought to expand their areas of influence without going into
armed conflict.
3) The Corruption
The film Casablanca, clearly shows the strengths of high corruption in the unfolding plot. The first
point is the police, the second point is the traditional bar games from Rick, the third point is the Blue Parrot,
all those who needed exit visas to America, visited the police first, represented by Captain Renault. If they
failed, they went to Rick's Bar, there were games where most illegal immigrants were searching for as seen
or dreamed of negotiating an illegal way, and in the latter case, the only way out would be Signor Ferrari,
the ambitious owner Blue Parrot, who worked on the black market, and sell exit visas illegally.
In the film you can notice this in scenes made by Ugarte, Victor Laszlo and Ilsa Lund Laszlo, and
Annina and her husband.
Historical Research
The strength in the Nazis in Casablanca this is manifested through the Major Heinrich Strasser in
prison Ugarte who is murdered shortly thereafter, in authoritarianism with a Casablanca police, in search of
Victor Laszlo and his wife. There is a scene from the movie where you can see the patriotism of the time,
the anthem IN Germany and France. The first by German soldiers and the second by Victor Laszlo. What
will guarantee even more unbridled anger of German Major Strasser. At the end of the implementation of
the two hymns that happened in Rick's bar, Major Strasser tells police to close the bar. Closed by court
order, no more sales of exit visas, illegal gambling.
