Temples Of Kumaon

Jageshwar Temple, Almora


Jageshwar Temple is a conglomeration of a number of large and small temples
and one of the Swayambhu (Jyotir Linga) Lingas found in India. It is a 2500
years old temple complex nestled amid spectacular scenic vistas of the
Himalayas and is an ideal retreat to unwind, rejuvenate and seek solace. The
temple is a beautiful example of sheer architectural grandeur and houses other
temples dedicated to Surya, Mritunjay Mahadev, Nau Durga, Chandika, Nav
Graha and other Hindu deities. The complex comprises of 124 temples,
hundreds of statues and the famous Swayambhu Linga named Nagesh.

Jhanker Sam Mahadev Temple, Jageshwar


The temple, located south of Jageshwar, has great religious significance that
attracts pilgrims from around the region. According to folklore, when Lord
Shiva was meditating (Tapasya), demons came to obstructhis penance. At that
time, Lord Jhanker Sam was born from Trinetra, who send hisganas to kill
the demons. Legend has it that Lord Sam will again come to Koti Linga Temple
and Jageshwar Temple to save humanity in Kalyug.

Kot Ling Mahadev Temple, Almora


Kot Ling Mahadev Temple is situated in the Hindu pilgrimage town of
Jageshwar in Almora district, Uttarakhand. It is one of the most important
temples in the Kumaons and is located at the Sangam of River Sam Ganga
and Jata Ganga. According to legends, the place was chosen by Lord Shiva
himself for meditation. The temple is only 2 km walk from Jageshwar Temple.

Chitai Temple, Almora
The famous temple of Gollu Devta at Chitali is one of the most popular
temples of Kumaon Himalayas and is located 6 km. from Almora. It is
dedicated to local deity Gollu, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord
Shiva. It was built during the 12th century and is characterised by numerous
brass bells of all sizes hanging in the premises. The bells are hung by the
devotees as offering to make a wish or as thanksgiving. The presiding deity is
also believed to be the God of Justice and therefore, you can find the walls of
the temple covered with court stamp papers by devotees who did not get justice
in the court. A common ritual is that devotees make petitions to the God of
Justice by using stamp papers to seek their desired decree in litigations.
Sacrificing goat is also a popular ritual at the temple.

Gananatji Temple
The Gananath Temple which is famous for its cave and Shiva temple is 47 kms.
from Almora and near the Satrali village (Takula) at an altitude of 2,116 mts. A
fair is held here at every Kartik Purnima and the whole place resounds with the
echoes of folk songs, which are invariably accompanied by enchanting folk
dances. The Kuri Master, Sahib Chandra Shekhar Lohani belonged to the
nearby village of Pant Satrali. Takula is famous for its Holi celebrations. One
can also reach Gananath via Ranman and Someshwar.

Mukteshwar Dham, Nainital


Mukhteshwar Dham is a 350-year old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The
sacred shrine is an important religious centre in Uttarakhand, situated atop a
hill, overlooking stunning vistas of the Kumaon Himalayas. The Shivling in the
temple is surrounded by idols of Vishnu, Brahma, Parvati, Ganesh, Hanuman
and Nandi. The trek to this temple, at a height of 2,312 metres, is an experience
to cherish forever.

Patal Bhuvaneshwar
The cave is considered as old as the earth itself. It is believed that Lord Shiva
resides here along with 33 crore Gods in Hindu mythology. Accessed through a
steep cave passageway, the Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave is truly fascinating, and
made more so by the images of gods and goddesses inside the cave. If time
allows, visit other temples like Ambika Dewaal and Shaileshwar Cave.

Bagnath Temple, Bageshwar


Situated in the heart of the town lies the ancient Shiva temple. The temple is
flooded with devotees on the annual occasion of Shivratri. This places has a
cluster of temples. Prominent among these temples are the Bhairav temple,
Dattatrey Maharaj, Ganga Mai temple, Hanuman temple, Durga temple,
Kalika temple, Thingal Bhairav temple, Panchnam Junakhara & the Vaneshwar
temple.

Baijnath temple
Baijnath temple complex is situated 17 kms from Kausani. Baijnath Temple
complex has many historic ruins. An intricate and slight carving makes the
temple magnificent. Visiting Baij Nath Temple, Kausani located amidst the
mountain ranges with the splendid sceneries around, can be an enchanting
experience.

Binsar Mahadev
Bineswar Temple or Binsar Mahadev Temple is situated at a distance of 19 kms
from Ranikhet district of Uttarakhand State. Built in 10th century, the temple is
known for its fine architecture. The temple was built by King Pithu in memory
of his father Bindu, hence this temple is also known as Bindeshwar temple.
Located at an elevation of 2480 meters above ocean level, its surroundings
compresses with natural fresh water springs and thick deodar forests giving the
visitor an experience of peace and serenity.

Itinerary
Tuesday, 2 May 2017
Pick up from Delhi and drive to Jim Corbett.
On arrival, check in to the hotel.
Short rest to unwind yourself.
Later visit Garjiya Temple, Corbett Fall & Corbett Museum.
Overnight stay at hotel in Corbett.

Wednesday, 3 May 2017


Enjoy jeep safari at Jim Corbett in morning (6-9 am)
After breakfast, check out and proceed towards Nainital.
On arrival, check in to the hotel & proceed
for Lake Tour covering Bhimtal, Sattal & Naukuchiatal.
In evening, go for a walk near Bhimtal Lake.
Overnight stay at Bhimtal.

Depart the city and leave towards
Almora in the evening to start the
spiritual journey in The Devbhoomi.
Visit the scenic town of Mukteshwar and
The Mukteshwar temple on the way.

Spend the day in Pooja and Darshan,

Post lunch return back to Almora,

In the morning, after breakfast, proceed towards Gangolihat.
Visit Patal Bhuvaneshwar.Temple, Hat Kalika Temple.
In the evening return back to Almora.
