I watched with admiration and more than a
little envy Judy zoomed at an astonishingly
young age from president of the Eastern
Psychological Association, to chairman of
psychology at Yale University, to dean, and
to provost at Yale, and then to president at
Penn (page 1)
The author is talking about the rapid
accomplishments of his close friend, why
would he be envious? How was she able to
accomplish so much so fast straight out of
college? I need to follow her guidelines to
being successful after graduating college.

So that is authentic happiness theory:
positive psychology is about happiness in
three guises- positive emotion, engagement,
and meaning (page 5)
I think the author is putting way to much
thought into this. This whole article is
extremely exaggerated. The passage is the
epitome of overthinking in my opinion. If your
happy your happy, if youre not youre not. Its
a regular emotion with that can be simply
understood. If youre not happy, do something
that makes you happy. There is no need for
this elaborate equation and theory to
happiness.

Well-being theory has five elements, and Ive never thought this deeply into wellbeing
each of the five has these three properties. to actually categorize it, but I can agree with
The five elements are positive emotion, the author on the topic. All five of these
engagement, meaning, positive elements are important to ones well-being,
relationships, and accomplishment. A handy but for me they come without thinking. I dont
mnemonic is PERMA. (page 7) sit around and plan out things to fit different
elements in my well-being, I just make moves
and actions for my well-being.

In the real world, where many processes
influence the outcomes we care about, the
answer to the burning question of money
and happiness is more complex than a

Yes, money buys happiness, but there are
important exceptions. (page 1)
The question of whether money buys
happiness is a timely one because there are
more rich people alive today than at any
other time in history Today, however,
riches are more accessible to common
people. Newspapers magazines are full of
stories of small-town boys and girls who
grow up to be rich movie stars, musicians,
television personalities, professional
athletes, lottery winners, politicians,
business owners, and bestselling novelists.

Folks earning $80,000 a year were more
satisfied than their counterparts earning
$60,000, and those earning more than
$200,000 were significantly more satisfied
than the middle class
In short, this research indicates that,
overall, being extraordinarily poor has a
negative influence on happiness, but that
some very poor individuals are, in fact,
somewhat satisfied, and even extremely
poor people are usually not depressed.

For me personally, its not. Its a very simple
answer. Most people just want to be difficult
and complicated for no reason so its a
complex answer for them. For some people,
money cant buy them happiness, but for
some people it can. Whats so complex about
that?

Not where Im from. Whats the authors
definition of common people?
How is this not common sense. This is a big
duh moment.
No one wants to walk around down in the
dumps all day every day no matter what type
of financial situation theyre dealing with.
Those people learned to find happiness in
their situation. But, if you gave them the
chance to change their situation I guarantee
you they would take it. Just because theyre
not depressed about living in poverty, doesnt
mean having money wouldnt make them
happy.
