Abstract
With the advancement of technology, people are also suffering from different dangerous diseases

which needs new technologies like acid reflux chip for its treatment. Acid Reflux chip is one of

such device that detect Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Large medical center like TMC

which deals with different diseases everyday needs this device to improve the treatments for their

patients also helping the doctors and nurses to save their time. It is more efficient for the doctor

to use the acid reflux chip as this chip is simple and convenient to work with. Treating patients

with a lot of medicines for a long period might damage their organs giving more priority to acid

reflux chip. Therefore, it is easy to diagnose early esophageal cancer by observing GERD

symptoms.

iii
Introduction

Purpose

Working with the large-scale company and having to provide qualitative service that satisfies the

customer is not an easy task. Companies should look for a way that eases their work and helps

manage their costs. The present invention of the Acid reflux chip provides a new method for long

term monitoring of gastroesophageal reflux. TMC should use the acid reflux chip because it will

help the business in hospital go faster and easier with not much of hard job. With the advancement

of the technology in daily life, hospitals also should be advancing their medical field with devices

that can detect the diseases easily and can help to treat them.

Problem

Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) responds well to suppression of gastric acid secretion.

However, clinical management and research in diseases of acid secretion have been hindered by

the lack of a non-invasive, accurate and reproducible tool to detect the disease. Even though we

came across with different kinds of medicines, it is still hard to detect the dangerous diseases.

Currently, testing for GERD symptoms causes great discomfort for the patient: a wire is inserted

through the anesthetized patients nose and down the esophagus to the stomach opening.

Electrodes at the tip of the wire measure acid coming up toward the throat, and must stay in

place for 48 hours to achieve a diagnosis. This intrusion causes many patients to become so

conscious of their situation that they stop regular eating, drinking, sleeping or work activities,

1
thus harming the reliability of the measurements. Also, intake of traditional means of medicine

for a long time might complicate a patients health. The use of Acid Reflux chip makes their life

safe for treatment and it doesnt consume much of the doctors time and effort. TMC staff and

executives will have better knowledge in treating the disease in its early symptom.

Description

In the GERD process, the chip is invented in a way that it

can monitor the disease wirelessly. The implantation of the

acid reflux chip is more reliable as it doesnt need any

battery in the sensor device. For implantation, it needs an

energy harvesting circuit, sensing electrodes, an antenna

and a frequency converter. This kind of batteryless sensor system for reflux event diagnosis of GERD

device can detect

the acid and nonacid materials because of the frequency shift

between the air and solution that gives exact determination of the gastroesophageal reflux

disease. The figure 1 shows that the device as two specific parts, transponder and reader. The

part helps to read various modulation signals and sends the radio frequency to the transponder

which can calculate the output frequency with the help of RF energy exposed to patients body.

This sensor can be implanted inside the patients body to give an accurate information about the

GERD if it is present.

2
Benefits

Security

The Acid reflux chip is one of the most prevalent device afflicting the gastrointestinal tract. It

helps detect cancer in early stage so we can start treating for the disease before it gets worse. Due

to this advantage, there is lots of chance of people preferring the chip over other methods of

disease detection and elimination.

Convenience

The Acid reflux chip is used in patients by attaching the sensor to the esophagus wall several

centimeters above gastroesophageal (GE) junction. The Acid reflux chip uses a special plastic for

the tags that will cause no discomfort for the patients. It enables measuring not only acidity

levels, but also impedances. Since the chip is wireless and doesnt need a battery, there is no time

limit for monitoring. This invention provides an improved system that accurately monitors a

patients gastroesophageal acid reflux that is more compact, untethered, improves patient

comfort, and does not depend upon an implanted power source for its function. With these

advantages, clinicians can precisely diagnose reflux with electronic records showing quantitative

3
data with cost-effective and out-patient procedures that can be used for large population and

potentially periodic screening.

People are taking different types of medicine that help to ease heartburn. Taking these

medicines frequently will stop working and must increase the intake dose. There is no proper

cure for the acid reflux and all the other method we use is the preventive method. However, there

have been other circuits implant too that have been invented but they dont seem to work because

they either have side effects and cant give the accurate result. Most of the people are not aware

of this problem and so they are taking different types of medicines which is making bad effect on

their health. Many people know about this Acid Reflux implant program and have positive

response as this program is new and is recently released.

Cost

The hospital can afford this wireless device as it is less expensive than any other process used for

diagnosing of GRED. The other means of diagnosis requires the intake of the medicines which

itself costs $275 each and need to consume it in day to day life for an accurate result which

cannot be afforded by a middle-class people with low income.

The other way to treat this disease is by surgery which might cost $10,000-$25,000 and more.

Health insurance might cover 10% to 40% of its total cost but still need to pay the rest of the

money. Installing this wireless device into the body of the patient for the diagnosis of GRED is

the cheapest and most reliable method that has been made until now.

Features
The most accurate result for the identification of GRED

is its abnormal composition of the PH

value and the time period it needs to identify the disease is just 48 to 72 hours which is

The Acid Reflux chips have been implemented in many of the

hospitals and health clinics in many countries including,

America. Most of the people find it easy because it is secure,

inexpensive and convenient without any side effects or risks to the Figure 4. Photo of the implantable

patients life.

Concern
As far as our research depth, we came to know that it has been almost six years that researchers

are working on the improvement for this device. Even though they are still working on its

progress, they brought the device in the market for two years. There is still the probability that

the device might come across any defect after long period. Since we havent used the device for

decades, we havent seen any post reaction of the device till now. This is the main concern of the

5
company that, like some other device that doesnt have side effect and immediate reaction, but

shows reaction later; this device might need help of other technology later to function well.

Summary

TMC values and provides as much as benefits as they can give to their customer by securing

their life and offer people with low incomes to have treatment for diseases like GERD.

Implementation of the wireless and battery less sensor device in the hospital can save the lives of

many people as it gives an accurate diagnosis of the device in its early stage. The doctors will

also feel more comfortable to work in such environment which is friendly with their profession.

In the coming future, we can advance our hospital more with the utilization of such technologies

in the treatment of the big and dangerous diseases like GERD.
