Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection

NAEYC Standard:
NAEYC Standard 1: Promoting Child Development and Learning

Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development
knowledge base. They use their understanding of young childrens characteristics and needs, and
of multiple interacting influences on childrens development and learning, to create environments
that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child.

Brief Description of Evidence: (include semester completed)

During Spring 2017, in my ECED130 course Developmentally Appropriate

Guidance, I created a lesson plan. My lesson plan included ways to determine if
children are accepting of others. This lesson plan would help my classroom create
a healthy and very respectful environment. A healthy and accepting environment is
important to ensure that the children are able to learn to the best of their abilities.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned that there are many things that go into creating a great classroom. There
are also many things that go into creating a great lesson plan. My lesson plan
helped me realize that there are multiple ways to decide if children are being
accepted and respected by their peers and their teachers. My lesson plan was meant
to help teach my students about diversity and I felt that I did succeed in creating a
plan that could help do that.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

NAEYC Standard:

My artifact demonstrates my knowledge of this standard because my lesson plan

was based on being multicultural and diversity. This standard is all about a
healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging, environment for each child.
Diversity goes well with this because it helps us understand that we are all different
but all have similarities. If we respect each other and our beliefs then we are able to
have a healthy classroom and learn to the best of our abilities.
