Although there are cases out there that have wrongfully incarcerated people, DNA has

played a major role in how they were exempt from all their charges and released.

According to the Genetic Science Learning Center DNA profiling has helped to acquit or

convict suspects in many of the most violent crimes, including rape and murder. ( Genetic

Science Learning Lab )

Any time someone is a suspect to a crime, there is a piece of evidence, that links that person to

the crime.

Any evidence that is left behind for example, hair, fingerprints, and blood. One of the

best known cases of misconduct from the justices system is Steve Avery's case. Avery was

convicted of rape and and attempted murder in 1985 he was to serve a consecutive sentence of

thirty-two years in prison. In 2003 he was exonerated because DNA testing proved that result

pointed to another suspect .

The Criminal Justice Reform Bill was passed in 2005 shadowing the event that occurred

with Steve Avery this bill was passed to prevent any future improper convictions and reform the

justice system its self

Gregory Allen a man that has had sexual assault charges and has a criminal history and at

the time of the assault was not being watched by his parole officer (PO) Steven Avery served

eighteen years in prison for a crime he did not commit, according to the Wisconsin State Crime

Laboratory they stated that upon receipt of the new DNA evidence the office conducted an

exhaustive review of the original investigation earlier crime lab reports and the complete court

records based upon the review it is clear that Steve Avery did not commit this crime the human

error that was committed was that Avery was convicted on the -basis of physical evidence and

the victims identified him from the photo lineup but in that lineup Gregory Allens photo was

not in the group of the pictures she was shown.

This comes to show that forensic science is an essential part of an investigation.

To advance an investigation forensic scientist and police officers use new technologies to view

the crime scene and to analyze the evidence or anything else left behind that could possible help

them find the culprit.

As stated by the Science Daily Traditional fingerprint identification by pressing or

rolling of finger against the hard surface often results in partial or degraded images due to

improper finger placement, skin deformation, slippages, or smearing. ( Science Daily )

A 3D fingerprint identification system has been created, that captures the information

that the data bases does not have ...touchless 3D finger imaging can provide more accurate

personal identification as rich information is available from 3D fingerprint images(

ScienceDaily). Fingerprints will now be stored in a database and additionally will help identify

any missing person or any criminal that is wanted by the police.

Whether it has to do with them just being a suspect or the police need them to come in

for questioning, this is always one step closer to solving the crime that was committed.

Another advancement that can help police officers, investigators and forensic scientists is

a new technology called DNA phenotyping this helps when everything else fails,

When there is no DNA that matches with the one found at the crime scene or the Federal

Database does not have a match.

As stated in the article provided by National Geography law enforcement can now use

a technology called DNA phenotyping to reverse engineer the face of its source (meaning that

this also helps with ruling out people who don't match the profile of the suspect there looking

for).

On Jan. 16, 1984 the Bennett Family suffered a traumatic and deadly night while his

family rested for the night an intruder broke into their house with a hammer and another

unknown sharp object he violently murdered 27-year old bruce bennett and raped both mother

and daughter the youngest daughter only had a blunt force trauma to the head the next morning

the mother of Bruce went to the house not only to find the bodies of the family lying lifeless on

the floor, she immediately called the police, when the police arrived they couldn't find any

evidence of force entrance or any evidence that might lead to why or who committed this

horrendous crime days passed and there were still no leads to the investigation investigator

reached out to new technology to try to find any clue that could give them a clue or a lead that

will help them with the investigation.

The police of Aurora, Colorado discovered a new way to look at DNA with the help of a

new innovation called DNA phenotyping this deals with looking at certain parts of the DNA

found in the crime scene it can make a sketch that could possible give them a lead on how the

suspect looked or his facial features, In relation to the The New York Times adds that DNA

phenotyping is different: an attempt to determine physical traits from genetic material left at the

scene when no match is found in the conventional way.

till this day DNA Phenotyping hasn't found a match to any suspect to this crime but there

will be new improvement to this invasion.

Pennsylvania state university, Syracuse University of New York, university of California, George

Washington university and Michigan state university are a few top schools that are the best

school to go to if you're interested in the field of forensic science according to the website

Study.com/top_forensic_Science_college

there is no doubt that modern-day innovations and technology has shaped the world of forensics

science every day there are new innovations that are improving to help the criminal investigation

and the forensic scientist everything has to tie together all the puzzle piece have to fit in place in

order to discover the culprit

Weather it deals with being in the laboratory or a chemical forensic or forensic ballistic

technology is always changing and the investigator need to know and need to learned how to use

them the education they receive in the colleges is vital in what they know and how they

transition and change along with and for the new technology for the upcoming future.there will

always have new and upcoming evidence that help and supports evidence claims and everything

else that deals with the criminal prosecution and defence

Exonerations occurs when the conviction for a crime is reversed, either through demonstration

of innocence, a flaw in the conviction, or otherwise. Attempts to exonerate convicts are

particularly controversial in death penalty cases, especially where new evidence is put forth after

the execution has taken place.

The graph below shows The significant difference throughout 2010 through 2015 on how

many people have been Wrongfully incarcerated and convicted according to the website of

exoneration of United States 1,931 have been been exonerated since 1989 whether it's due to the

fact that there was bad forensic science evidence absent or present, as shown on the graph 2015

has shown an all time high rate of people being exonerated, all these cases have there unique

reason why and what really happened, but the graph shows more than enough cases that DNA or

any other contributing factor has helped their cases forensic science as helped in many ways,
8355323 5

people get there life's back the truth of the crime really come out and the perpetrators are brought

to justice The recent incline of people beings exonerates for the crimes they didn't commit is

because of new technologies and new methods, that has helped and improve the way police

officer and investigators have looked into and investigated crime scenes and evidence there are

also other conclusive factor such as new evidence that has come to notice or meaningful

testimony that has helped the investigation.

All though there has been a lot of people being exonerated through the years and the criminal

justice system is correcting their erroneous misconduct the rate of people being wrongfully

persecuted and convicted is at an all time high the criminal justice system deals with Accurly

persecuting the perpetrator and having them serve their time although there has been a lot of

miss handling and wrongfully persecuting the wrong person there's always new advances in

technology and education that will help the case although there has been a lot of miss handling

and wrongfully persecuting the wrong
