Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs understand that teaching
and learning with young children is a complex enterprise, and its details vary depending on childrens ages, characteristics, and the settings within which teaching and learning occur. They understand and use positive relationships and supportive interactions as the foundation for their work with young children and families. Candidates know, understand, and use a wide array of developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to connect with children and families and positively influence each childs development and learning.
Brief Description of Evidence:
In the spring of my ECED111 Environment Infant & Toddler course, we completed an assignment called Observation 1. I completed this Observation at Apple Tree. In this assignment I observed how Mr. Danny interacted with the children in his classroom. He was very friendly and he listened to everything they had to say. He had a set schedule for the activities that the children do each day. He provided developmentally appropriate activities based on the age of the children in his classroom. Mr. Danny was very kind to the children. It was evident that the children had a healthy relationship with Mr. Danny.
Analysis of What I Learned:
I learned that the way a classroom is set up is very important to how children learn. I was also able to learn that children who have healthy relationships with their educators learn better. They are in a better environment and they are able to process the information that is necessary more easily than if they have poor relationships with their educators.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the
NAEYC Standard: I feel that this assignment demonstrates my competence in this standard because this standard is about great student and teacher interaction and the classroom setting. I was able to observe the type of interactions happening in Mr. Dannys classroom. I also took note of the way the classroom was set up and what items were provided in the classroom.
