1
Plural nouns are fun!
But what makes them different than regular
nouns?

It is the way in which we use them of course!

.

2
Making plural nouns can be quite simple. For
some nouns, all you have to add is an -s at the
end of the noun.
Lets practice!

Finley ate an apple.

Finley ate apples

3
What did Finley eat?

____________________

Finley ate a pear.

Finley ate pears.

4
What did Finley eat?

That was great practice,

but Finley wants to tell you about
some
special rules.

5
The -s rule
When a singular noun ends in -s, you add an
-es to make it plural! It is that simple! Lets
try:

6

Did you have fun with

Finley?
11
He sure had fun with you!

Be sure to practice making

plural nouns every day

But before you go, there are

some other rules about plural
nouns that are good to know!

12
If the singular noun ends in -y, change the
ending to -ies to make it a plural noun.
Puppy/ Puppies

If the singular noun ends in -o, add -es to

make it a plural noun.
Tomato/tomatoes

If the singular noun ends in -us, the plural

ending is frequently -i.
Octopus/octopi

If the singular noun ends in -is, the plural

ending is -es.
Analysis/analyses

13
If the singular noun ends in -on, the plural
ending is -a.
Phenomenon/phenomena

If the singular noun ends with -f or -fe, the f

is often changed to a -ves in plural noun form.
14
Wolf/wolves

Knife/knives

*exception roof/roofs

Irregular nouns should be checked

in the dictionary because they
follow no specific rules at all!
child/children
goose/geese
man/men

15
Some nouns dont change at all
when they are pluralized!

Sheep

Moose

(It is important to see these nouns in context

to understand whether they are singular or
plural!)
For example: Finley saw one sheep, but I saw three
sheep.
