construction of Pump Room that is intended to be cast-in-place. The procedures presented herein are
the proposed methodologies to be implemented after completion of bored piling activities.
7. PRELIMINARIES
This consist of proper work procedure shall be carried out during the excavation stage as per specification
and Plan.
1. The area to be excavated shall be properly marked and clear before starting the works.
2. The foundation shall be excavated using excavator equipment to the required elevation
as per Plan.
3. The depth of excavation shall be periodically checked by a surveyor to avoid over
excavation.
DCPWTP-2
MS-027 4
4. All excavated material shall be kept a minimum of 1.0 meter from the edge of excavation
or shall be stockpiled to the area designated by the Consultant.
5. For all excavation activities, adequate safety barriers, sign boards, advance warning
signs would be used.
6. As soon as the excavation reaches the required depth/ elevation the surface shall be
reasonably smooth and uniform surfaces.
7. Before the compaction starts, it shall make sure that the excavated level is free from
standing water or excessive moisture content.
All suitable materials removed from the excavation shall be used in the formation of the subgrade,
beddings or backfill for structures and for the purposes shown on the Plans or as directed by the
Consultant.
Only approved materials shall be used in the construction of embankments and backfills.
Materials encountered in the excavation and determined by the Consultant as unsuitable for
backfills shall be disposed off-site.
The limits of excavation as shown on the Plans shall be cut manually. Likewise, the excavated
materials shall be properly disposed off-site. Afterwards, compaction of theof the subgrade will be
done by use of a compactor.
8. PREPARATION OF SUBGRADE
This consist of the preparation of the subgrade prior to lean concrete pouring for the support of the
overlying structural layers.
After the subgrade has been placed and compacted to the required density, the areas where the lean
concrete is to be constructed shall be trimmed properly to the required elevation. If loss of density
results from the trimming operation shall be restored by additional compaction before lean is placed.
The subgrade shall be uniformly moist when lean concrete is placed.
For wider areas, lean concrete shall be conveyed by crane with bucket filled with concrete and spread
out to the desired areas. Lean concrete shall be evenly spread to the elevation as specified.

9.1. INSTALLATION OF STEEL REINFORCEMENT AND EMBEDMENTS
All steel reinforcement shall conform to requirements specified in the ASTM A615 entitled
Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain Carbon-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement
and ASTM A706 entitled Standard Specification for Low Alloy Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for
Concrete Reinforcement
All Steel reinforcement shall be adequately placed in the position shown on the Plan and firmly
held there during placing and setting of the concrete. Bars shall be tied at all intersections. Ties
shall be fastened on the inside. Distance from the forms shall be maintained by means of precast
mortar blocks so that it does not vary from the position indicated on the Plans by more than 6mm.
Where there is a need of splicing, it shall be staggered as far as possible and with a minimum
separation in accordance to the specification. Not more than one-third of the bars may be spliced
in the same cross section, except where shown in the Plans.
Where there is an embedments to be placed, the surveyor will layout and mark its position. They
will also assist during the installation of embedment.
9.2. FORMWORKS
Materials for formworks shall be visually inspected for straightness, finish and defects prior to use.
Setting out shall be carried out by the surveyor prior to proceeding with formworks.
Prior to the commencement of the works, confirm and establish all reference points and levels.
Formworks shall support the loads imposed on them by the fresh concrete together with additional
stresses imposed by vibrating equipment and construction traffic.
Formworks shall be placed and fixed in conformance to the Plan. Care shall be carried out to
ensure that any formwork system is installed and supported correctly when applied on site
conditions may vary.
Water stop shall be installed in the construction joint as shown in the Plan. See Figure 3.0
Visual inspection shall be carried out to ensure support provided is adequate for actual site
condition.
Formwork shall be checked for the alignment, verticality and levelling prior to proceeding with
concrete pouring.

MS-027 6
Figure 2.0 Mat Foundation layout
Prior to placing of structural concrete, the surveyor shall mark the top elevation of the concrete. All
quality checks shall be performed and the approval to concrete instruction issued by the
Consultant.
Concrete shall be deposited in such a manner to require minimal rehandling. The concrete shall
be unloaded and spread manually in such a manner as to prevent segregation.
For wider areas, concrete shall be conveyed by crane with bucket filled with concrete and spread
out to the desired areas. Concrete shall be evenly spread in layers and thoroughly consolidated
against and along the faces of all forms by means of immersion or needle vibrator. For safety
purposes, workmen shall not be allowed to walk in the freshly mixed concrete with boots or shoes
coated with earth or foreign substances. In no case shall the vibrator be operated longer than
fifteen (15) seconds in any one location.
Immediately after the finishing operations have been completed and the concrete has sufficiently
set, the entire surface of the newly placed concrete shall be entirely covered with Burlap Mats.
The mats used shall be of such length (or width) that as laid they will extend at least twice the
thickness of the mat foundation. The mats shall be placed so that the entire surface and the edges
of the mat foundation are completely covered. The mat shall be maintained fully wetted and in
position for 72 hours after the concrete has been placed unless otherwise specified.
DCPWTP-2
MS-027 7
The forms shall remain in place undisturbed for not less than 24 hours after concrete pouring. In
removal of forms, care shall be taken so as not to break the edges of the mat foundation.
All steel reinforcement shall be adequately placed in the position shown on the Plans and firmly
held there during placing and setting of the concrete. Bars shall be placed in accordance to the
procedures stated in Section 9.1 Installation of Steel Reinforcement and Embedment.
Where there is an embedments to be placed, the surveyor will layout and mark its position. They
will also assist during the installation of embedment.
These procedure shall be repeated until all segments has been completed.
10.2. FORMWORKS
All materials forming temporary formworks shall be clean, strong and clear of any deflection. Erect
formworks to the dimension and ensure that lines and levels are within the tolerance. All
formworks activities shall be carried out in the procedures stated in Section 9.2 Formworks. The
shutter shall be side supported by steel bars or other approved support to maintain the proper
alignment of the forms. Ensure that the props, shores, waling, bearers, clamps and tie rods are
the right size and at the correct spacing.
Formwork shall be designed, fabricated, erected, supported, braced and maintained so that it will
be capable of supporting without failure all vertical and lateral loads that may reasonably be
anticipated to be applied to the formwork. Formwork which is designed, fabricated, erected,
supported, braced and maintained in conformance on the Plan.
Every leg of scaffolding should be checked for tightness, rigidity and proper bracing both ways
and always obtain approval before striking the formwork from the concerned personnel.
Provide opening window at every 1.2 m in height by cutting one top vertical bar (which can be
provided on later stage with the U-shape bars with a suitable overlap) at the distance of one meter
interval, to accommodate the hose pipe at the most possible and nearest place of concrete
pouring.
Installation of water stop at the construction joints shall be carried out in accordance to the Plans.
These procedure shall be repeated until all segments has been completed.
DCPWTP-2
MS-027 8
Concreting works for the mat foundation is divided into three (3) segments as shown:
Concrete shall be conveyed by concrete pump truck and deposited as nearly as posible in its final position.
Concrete shall be placed so as to avoid segregation of concrete and displacement of the reinforcement,
other embeded tems and or formworks. Maximum free fall height or free drop height of shall be minimized
to 1.2m to avoid segregation.
The concrete shall be place in layers not more tan 500 mm or agreed by the Consultant. The layer thickness
will be controlled by marking on the hose pipe. The layers shall not be placed so that they form
featheredges nor they be placed on a previous layer that has taken its initial set. In order to comply with this
requirement, a layer will be started before completion of the proceeding layer. The vibrators shall be
operated at regular intervals to produce dense, compact and homogenous concrete surface.
These procedure shall be repeated until all segments has been completed.
DCPWTP-2
MS-027 9
Formworks shall be removed after the concrete has gained sufficient strength as specified. The period of
time elapsing between the placing of concrete and removal of forms shall be approved by the Consultant
after consideration of the loads likely to be imposed on the concrete. Cares hall be taken in removal of forms
to avoid shock or disturbances to concrete. As son as the formwork has been removed, bolt holes in
concrete, other tan construction joints which are not required for subsequent operation shall be filled.
10.5. CURING
Concrete shall be thoroughly wetted as son as the forms are first loosened and shall be kept wet during the
removal operation and until it covered with Burlap Mats. Placing of burlap mats shall be done in accordance
to the procedure stated in Section 9.4 Curing and Removal of Forms. Curing shall be continued for as long
as may be necessary to achieve its objectives but in any case for atleast seven (7) days or until the concrete
is covered by later construction whichever is the shorter period.
The duration of Works as outlined in this method statement is projected to be completed in five (5) months.
All the equipment, tools and tackles being used for the work shall be in good
condition and maintained. Regular toolbox meeting shall be conducted
regularly on the procedures to execute the work safely.
