Dear Clark County School District,

It has come to my attention recently that you wish to discontinue using technology in the
classroom and focus solely on the necessary topics needed to pass standardized testing. As an

ABC Community School

educator I can only express my deep concern over this decision. If we were to switch to this plan
the effects on students would be detrimental.

As an educator at ABC Community School I can say with extreme confidence that technology has
made all the difference. In school we give students a plethora of tools to use in order to prepare
them to enter the 21st century workforce. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that
Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12
percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. With such a huge
margin of growth in jobs how can we take technology away from our students. Currently, we are
preparing students for jobs that do not exist yet and in order to do that we need to be constantly
incorporating cutting edge technology into our classrooms.

It is increasingly important to use technology in the workforce in fact a UK-based ESRC Research
Centre conducted survey that found that in 2001 40% of all UK jobs demanded computer
literacy. That figure was up from 31% four years ago in 1997. With this information I urge you to
reconsider your decision as it will deeply impact our students in the district. My job as an
educator is to create a future for my students and I hop that you also see this as not only your
job but your duty

Thank you,
