UWL First! Scholars Contract

Description:

This contract serves as an agreement between the UWL First! Scholars program and the
student recipient. After officially accepting the UWL First! Scholar invitation, the student
will work closely with the UWL First! Scholars Program Staff to meet the expectations
and requirements listed below.

Expectations:

UWL First! Scholars agree to:


Maintain a minimum UW La Crosse resident GPA of 2.50 for each semester.
Be a supportive peer to fellow UWL First! Scholars
Maintain regular communication with the UWL First! Scholars Program Staff
Fulfill the UWL First! Scholars program requirements as described below.

Program Requirements:

The UWL First! Scholars program requirements are designed to assist the student in
successfully transitioning to UW La Crosse, providing outlets for students to become
invested in the university, and eventually preparing the student for a successful career and
life outside the university. Those requirements include participation in the following:
UWL 100 Course (2 hours per week, Fall 2017)
UWL First! Scholars Success Seminar (1 hour per month, Spring 2018)
Financial Aid Office/Peer Mentor Visit (up to 1 hour, Fall 2017-18)
Career Services Office Visit (up to 1 hour, Spring, 2017-2018)
Academic Advising Appointment (up to 1 hour, Fall and Spring, 2017-18)
It Make$ Cents! Financial Literacy Visit (up to 1 hour, Fall and Spring,
2017-2018)
On campus paid job/internship (6-8 hours per week, Fall and Spring, 2017-18)

Program Mission:

The UWL First! Scholars Program is designed to assist select first generation/low
income students to succeed academically through a coordinated system of support,
integrating college readiness, financial aid, advising and career development. The
program hopes to address the social and economic barriers to higher education for select
students who demonstrate intellectual promise and financial need.
Benefits:

The UWL First! Scholars will benefit from the relationships formed with faculty, staff,
and students via partnerships with these groups. First! Scholars will also develop work
ready skills through participation in their paid job/internship placement. These
placements will provide additional networking and leadership opportunities, career
building skills, and increased confidence. In addition, First! Scholars will receive a
$2,000.00 scholarship during their first year of attendance. (Scholars who qualify and
choose to return to the program will receive a $2,000.00 scholarship during Year 2 of
enrollment in the program.

Contract Statement:

I _________ am committing to the UWL First! Scholars program for the academic year
of 20__/20__. I understand I must meet the specific expectations, assignments, and
projects set by the program listed above. If I fail to meet the specified requirements, I
understand my participation in the program may cease. If for any reason I am removed
from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, I will forfeit my placement in this program
and all resources provided.
