Procedure Summary This SOP outlines the steps for setting up and collecting data from
an ISCO 2500 temporary meter.
Performed By Interceptor Service Workers and Engineering (Technical Services)
staff.
Materials
Pick(s) and/or shovel (for removing manhole cover)
Laptop
Communications cable
6 volt batteries (at least 2)
Safety Additional time may be required to plan traffic control. Plan accord
ingly if work is to be done in or near a street.
PPE
All PPE required by the Interceptor Services Work Rules

Set Up a New Temporary Meter in Flowlink


1. Connect the temporary meter to the laptop using the communications cable.

a. Turn on the laptop and login with the provided credentials.


b. Plug the USB end of the communications cable into the laptop.
c. On the temporary meter, unscrew the connector cover from the connector port.

d. Plug the other end of the communications cable into the connector port on the temporary meter.

2. Open Flowlink.

Note: Use the screenshot above as a guide for making the appropriate selections for Type,
COM port, and Baud rate.

a. Check Create New Site.


b. Click 2100 Instruments Series.

c. In the Site Name box, type in the site name in this format: INT_MH#.
INT: Interceptor
MH#: Manhole number
d. Click ok.
3. Set the flow rate measurement.
a. Click Jump to measurement tab and select Flow Rate from the dropdown menu.

b. Enter the appropriate diameter size in inches in the Diameter field.


c. Make sure all other information on the page is correct and adjust as needed.
4. Set the data storage rates.
a. Click Set Up Data Storage in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

b. Set the primary storage for 15 minutes.

c. Set the secondary storage for between 2 and 5 minutes.


5. Set the equation.
a. On the Data Storage Setup dialog box, click Set Equation.

b. Select the condition to change.

c. Click Edit condition.


d. Set the equation level to 1.5 times the level of the existing flow. Estimate the level if a stick check
has not been done yet.
Example: If the stick check is 5 inches, then the equation would be: 207M01677: Level >= 7 in.
e. Click Ok.
f. Click Apply Changes on the Data Storage dialog box.

6. Enter the flow level.


a. Click Jump to measurements tab and select Level from the dropdown menu.
b. Enter the level in the Adjust level field once the crew has collected the measurement.

c. Repeat substep 6a twice or until the level measurement is within 1/10th of an inch.
d. Click Set Up Data Storage.
e. Set up data storage just as in Steps 3 and 4.

7. Set velocity signal, velocity ratio, and velocity spectrum.

Repeat this step to complete the data storage sections for Velocity Ratio and Velocity
Spectrum.

a. Click Jump to measurements tab and select Velocity Signal from the dropdown menu.
b. Click Set up data storage button.

c. Select 15 minutes for the primary storage.

Note: Do not select a secondary storage for Velocity Signal, Velocity Ratio, and Velocity
Spectrum.

8. Set temperature gauge.


a. Click Jump to measurements tab and select Temperature from the dropdown menu.

b. Select degrees Fahrenheit for the Measurement.

c. Click Set Up Data Storage.

d. Set the primary data storage at 15 minutes.

9. Click on Measurements tab.


a. Check the measurements to make sure Level, Velocity, and Flow Rate are collecting data.

b. Address any abnormailities with the appropriate steps.

Note: If the Input Volts measurement falls below 10 volts, change the batteries in the temporary
meter.

10. Disconnect from Flowlink.

a. Click Disconnect.
b. Disconnect the communications cable from the computer and the meter.
c. Put the black connector cover on the communications port.

Note: The temporary meter is now ready to be placed in the manhole.

Collect Data from Temporary Meters Task


1. Retrieve the temporary meter from the manhole.
a. Remove the manhole cover with a pick.
b. Initiate a confined space entry permit.
c. Unlatch the temporary meter from either the ladder rung or the anchor bolt.
d. Place the temporary meter on a cleared space a safe distance from the manhole.
2. Connect the temporary meter to the laptop using the connection cable.

a. Turn on the laptop and login with the provided credentials.


b. Plug the USB end of the communications cable into the laptop.
c. On the temporary meter, unscrew the connector cover from the connector port.
d. Plug the other end of the communications cable into the connector port on the temporary meter.

3. Open Flowlink.
a. Click the Flowlink icon to open the program.

Note: This will bring up the Connect dialog box.

b. Click 2100 Instruments.

Note: Use the screenshot above as a guide for making the appropriate selections for Type,
COM port, and Baud rate.

c. If a 5100 error appears, make sure the communications cable is properly plugged into the tempo
rary meter and the laptop.

4. Retrieve data from the temporary meter.


a. Click Retrieve Data.

b. Click the Measurements tab.

c. Check Input Volts on the Measurements page.

d. If the measurement falls below 10 volts, change the batteries in the temporary meter.

5. When the retrieval is complete, disconnect from Flowlink.


a. Click Disconnect.

b. Disconnect the communications cable from the computer and the meter.

c. Put the black connector cover on the communications port.

d. Secure the temporary meter back in the manhole and replace the manhole cover.
