Workplace Reflection

Through listening to and analysing the interview of Sky Kendall I feel that an internship is a fantastic
opportunity to gain workplace knowledge which will help me gain fantastic insight and possibly present an
opportunity to get a job at that company after Ive finished my degree. I need to have a global perspective
as my future job can and will be affected by external factors which I will need to consider daily while
making decisions in the job. I have found that it is very valuable to be able to work effectively on my own
and within a group as well. The ability to talk to clients is an important skill and being able to get my work
and ideas across correctly is very important. I also found out that all university courses are valuable in the
workforce and I will most likely use the skills gained from courses I didnt think I would ever use, in due
time. There are so many opportunities and my future job wont always be as glamorous as I think it will be,
especially to begin with. It takes a lot of hard work and I will have to sacrifice my personal time if I want to
be successful in my role and move beyond a junior position. I feel it will take 5 to 10 years to establish
myself and progress within an industry so it should be a long-term goal of mine to do this. In order to find a
role that is suited to both me and the organisation, I may need to consider working overseas or interstate.

Prior to the completion of my degree, I need to contact businesses in the industry I want to work in and do
workplace interviews to get an idea of what the job is likely going to be like upon graduation. Gaining an
internship is also a valuable experience and will teach me many skills which Ill need to know for my
future job, especially if this can be done as part of the degree with Griffith as per skys experience. An
internship will also help me know if the job is what I really want to do prior to finishing my degree. Further
to the internship, I need to make sure Im tailoring my elective courses to best prepare me for the job I want
to do when I finish. Through the careful selection of electives, I will enable myself to learn a lot of very
important information which I will assist me in my future job. I now understand that to be competitive with
a Griffith internship, I will need to be prepared to do anything and must maintain good grades for the rest
of my degree. Overall the interview of Sky Kendall has given me a lot of valuable information that I plan to
use effectively to help me gain employment after my degree as well as help me become skilled enough to
successfully do my job in the future.
