MUSIC THERAPY

I. PURPOSE

Music therapy is one of the expressive therapies, consisting of a process in which a music
therapist uses music and its entire facets-physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and
spiritual- to help clients improve their physical and mental health.

Music therapy is used with schizophrenic patients to ameliorate many of the symptoms of the
disorder. The music is at times chosen by the client, or by the music therapist based on the clients
reciprocation to the music. It can improved social symptoms such as increased conversation
ability, reduced social isolation, and increased interest in external events.

II. TARGET GROUP

All able male psychiatric patients

III. OBJECTIVES:

General objectives:

At the end of 30 minutes of music therapy patients will be able to:

1. To reduce distress/trauma/apprehension and fear of illness or injury


2. To increase and improve appropriate emotional expressions
3. To divert their sadness/anxiety/fear into happiness
4. To promote spiritual exploration

Specific objectives:

1. The patient will agree and participate to the instruction of the student nurse
2. Listen and follow the instructions of the therapy
3. The patient will be able to verbalize their feeling

IV. MATERIALS NEEDED:

1. Sound system
2. Music

V. PROCEDURE/METHOD:
1. Set up the sound system
2. Prepare the music needed in this activity
3. Introduction of the facilitators (student nurse) name and the activity
4. Explaining of the rules and regulations during the activity
5. Explain the procedure to the patient so that they follow it easily.
6. Assist the participants during activity

VI. LAGDA:

1. Listen carefully to the instruction.


2. All participants will cooperate during activity.
3. Please refrain from talking and standing while the program is still going.
4. Do not disturb others during activity.
5. Who want to give additional lagda?

VII. FINAL EVALUATION

The student nurses will generally evaluate all of the participants by having a casual question and
answer style with the patients. They will also explore the patients feelings about the therapy.
