DIGITAL DATA Books and JavaScript stored in DNA molecules.

By Douglas Heaven, 16 August 2012

STORED IN George Church and colleagues of Harvard University successfully stored

a 53,400-word book, 11 JPG imaged and a JavaScript program into
DNA
sequences of DNA.
Total of 5.27 million bits of data

MOLECULES Broke record of D Craig Venters team in 2010, which stored only 7920
bits of data in bacterium DNA.
Used analogous feature to a hard drive; breaking data into a few
discrete blocks called sectors.

How is data stored in

DNA?
Why DNA?
Longer lifespan than digital storage
Less power usage (production and
maintenance)
Higher density of data
