Before you can sleep in an inn, you must first pay the innkeeper for your stay. You can sleep at the other places

Join a Guild
Lars can learn a variety of spells as he travels through the kingdoms. Some spells can only be obtained if Lars
joins a magical guild. To join a guild, Lars must battle the guild master or mistress. If Lars wins the battle, he

easier.

To climb up or down a rope, walk up to the rope and touch it.

Wilderness 18

Chapter 6 Magic
Some characters have the ability to learn and use magic spells. Magic spells can be written in books and scrolls,
or learned in schools. Spells are scattered throughout the isles; some can be obtained from merchants, others by
looting monsters.

Rhen
Rhen has the ability to use sword magic. Sword magic is performed by casting spells through a weapon. All
sword magic is offensive, and because a sword is used to spin the magic into a spell, little mana is needed.

Learn Sword Magic

Rhen can learn sword singer techniques in a variety of ways. She can learn some skills naturally as she gains
experience and strength, some can be taught to her by other sword singers, and some are embedded into the
swords of power that she can wield.

Become a Sword Singer

To become a Sword Singer, Rhen must train at Shadwood Academy. First she must pass her trials and become
a journeyman, then she must perform an act of bravery and return to the academy with evidence of her deed.

Wield Swords of Power

Several swords of power are scattered across the isles. If Rhen has graduated from Shadwood Academy, she
can equip the swords of power and use the sword magic within them.

Lars
Lars has the ability to use source magic. Source magic requires the wielder to draw directly from the source of
magic. Unfortunately, this requires more mana than sword magic. However, with an orb staff, source magic can
be magnified and, thus, extremely deadly.
Although Lars can learn some healing spells, he is especially proficient with offensive magic. If you want to blast
your enemies to shreds, Lars is the man to have.

Learn a Magic Spell

To learn a magic spell, you must read it. After a spell has been read, Lars will be able to use it. Some spells,
however, are complex, and cannot be learned until Lars reaches a high level.

Become a Sorcerer
To become a Sorcerer, Lars must train at Shadwood Academy. First he must pass his trials and become a
journeyman, then he must perform an act of bravery and return to the academy with evidence of his deed.

Magic 19
Aveyond Player's Guide

Join a Magic Guild

There are several guilds scattered throughout the kingdoms. Lars can join one of these guilds and learn its
secrets. To join a guild you must fight the guild master to prove that you are strong enough to enter. When you
join a guild, Lars receives a new title and a spellbook that contains the guild secrets.

Wield Orb Staffs

When Lars becomes a sorcerer, he can use orb staffs. Unlike other staffs that you can find on the isles, you must
build an orb staff. To do this, you need to obtain an empty orb staff and an orb. By itself, an empty orb staff is not
going to help Lars much, but with an orb attached, it can magnify his spells.
The orb you've attached to your orb staff affects only some types of spells. This effect can be positive or
negative, depending upon the spell you pass through the staff. For example, if you equip the Dragon Orb in your
orb staff, any fire spells that pass through it will be magnified, but any water spells that pass through it will be
weakened.
In addition, the type of orb you attach to the staff will change the properties of the orb staff. Properties that
change include the strength of the staff, the defense of the staff, and the type of damage that the staff can do.
Lars does not have to do anything special to use spells through his orb staff. The staff needs only to be equipped
when Lars casts a spell.
Before you can wield an orb staff you need to build it. The orb staff will always appear in Lars' Equipment screen,
and the orbs in the Items screen.
To attach an orb to the orb staff, complete these steps:
1 Press ESC. The Main Menu opens.
2 Select Items. The Items page opens.
3 Select the orb you want to attach to the orb staff and press SPACEBAR. The orb is attached to the orb staff.
If you do not have an orb staff, nothing will happen.
To equip an orb staff, see the section, Equip Your Characters.

Dameon
Dameon has the ability to use sun magic. Sun magic requires the wielder to coax or grow a spell into being. It
does not require a lot of mana, but takes time to spin. Sun magic has healing properties and is especially useful
for creating healing and defensive spells.
Although Dameon can learn some offensive spells, he is especially proficient with defensive magic. If you need to
shield your party from powerful spell attacks, have Dameon spin a shield during battle.

Learn Magic Spells

As Dameon's level increases, he will automatically learn new spells.

Elini
Elini has the ability to summon demons. Demon summoning is the most strenuous type of magic and requires an
incredible amount of mana to both summon and control the direction of a demon's attack.

Magic 20
Aveyond Player's Guide

In general, it will take all of Elini's mana to summon a demon in battle. Use this skill sparingly and only when you
are in a dire situation.

Learn Demon Summons

Elini can learn demon summons when she battles demons. She must be in the active party during a fight so that
she can study the demon and learn from it.

Tei'jal
Tei'jal doesn't know how to use magic, but she does have a bite. When Tei'jal bites an enemy during a battle,
she can drain her enemy of health and transfer that health to herself. And because she is already dead, trying to
kill her is, well, almost impossible.

Magic 21
Aveyond Player's Guide

Chapter 7 Monsters
You must fight and loot monsters to survive on the isles. The beasts you fight provide experience to help you
grow strong and goods to help you pay for armor, food, and a place to sleep at night.
Monsters are abundant in the wilderness, and they normally roam around in groups. You can see the monsters
on screen, and if you run into one, you must fight it. Some monsters belong to groups, so if you encounter one
monster in the group, you must fight the entire group. Groups contain one to four monsters. Once you begin a
fight, you can not leave the fight until the monster group or the hero party wins the battle. If you win the battle, the
monster bodies appear on the map. You can search these bodies for loot and gold.
Make sure to save your game before you fight an unfamiliar monster!

Use a Magic Spell on a Monster or a Friend

To use a magic spell in battle, you must have enough mana. You can check your mana at the bottom of the
screen during a battle.
To use a spll on a monster or a friend, complete these steps:
1 Select Skill and press SPACEBAR.
2 Select the spell you want to use and press SPACEBAR.
3 Select the monster or friend who you want to use the spell on and press SPACEBAR.

Attack a Monster with a Weapon

The easiest way to attack a monster is with your characters' weapons. A weapon must be equipped before battle.
To attack a monster with a weapon, select Attack and press SPACEBAR.

Monsters 22
Aveyond Player's Guide

Use an Item on a Monster or a Friend

Some items can be used to attack monsters and heal friends.
To use an item on a monster or a friend, complete these steps:
1 Select Item and press SPACEBAR.
2 Select the item you want to use and press SPACEBAR.
3 Select the monster or friend you want to use the item on and press SPACEBAR.

Capture a Monster During Battle

If Lars is in your active party and he has the Cloak of Undying Loyalty equipped, you can capture a monster
during battle. Only a handful of monsters can be captured, but once they are, they will affect your party in special
ways. For example, if you capture a Magic Mushroom, your magic wielders will use less mana to cast spells.
When you capture a monster, it will appear on the bottom right side of the Main Menu. You can have only one
captive monster at a time, and once you let a monster go, it's attributes will no longer affect the party.
To capture a monster during battle, complete these steps:
1 When it is Lars' turn to fight, select Skill and press SPACEBAR.
2 Select Capture and press SPACEBAR.
3 Select the monster you want to catch and press SPACEBAR.

Defend Against Monsters

If you have a character defend themselves during battle, the character will absorb less damage from a monster
attack. However, if you choose to defend a character, the character will not be able to attack.
To defend a character, select Defend and press SPACEBAR.

Protect yourself with Magic Charms

Several beasts use magic, elements, and poisons to defeat your party. Special charms can counteract these
types of attacks. For example, if your party encounters a poisonous snake, but has poison rings equipped, the
probability that your characters will be poisoned decreases.
You must equip magic charms before you fight monsters.

Loot Monsters
After you defeat a monster, you can loot its body for gold and goods.
To loot a dead monster, walk on its body and press SPACEBAR. Any loot will be added to your inventory.
