Letter of Reference: Jillian Remillard

I am writing this as a reference for Jillian Remillard, who was my student teacher from February 17, 2015 to April 24,
2015 at John Maland High School. She has received her interim certificate and has graduated with distinction from the
University of Alberta. I feel confident she will be an enthusiastic addition to any school she chooses to work at.

The one thing that impressed me the most about Jill as a young educator is her exceptionally strong knowledge of English
Language Arts. She has courses in special education, which have given her insight in ways to meet the needs of students
in a variety of settings. Jill easily formed relationships with the grade 10 students she worked with and I am confident she
will continue to do so; her energy can be infectious.

Jill has gained valuable experiences designing lessons and units that are thoughtful and engaging. She has the opportunity
to observe many teachers in many different subject areas, and worked with two mentor teachers during her time at John
Maland. Having multiple perspectives and guidance has demonstrated for Jill the value of collaboration and she eagerly
embraced the opportunities to work collaboratively with both of us throughout her field experience. She also willingly
shared many excellent activities with us that she had designed throughout her university studies at both the high school
and junior high level.

Jill brings extensive knowledge of grade 10 English Language Arts standards and expectations. She will be able to
scaffold learning and prepare junior high students for the rigor of the high school program; but can also guide students
with diverse learning needs, having worked with students who have learning accommodations and special programming

Jill is enthusiastic about and well-versed in the use of technology and utilized a variety of programs, apps and online tools
in the classroom. However, she knows that there is a balance - that technology is a tool for learning. She also recognizes
the value of traditional hands on activities, using post-it notes or charts; essentially understanding the need for variety in
order to enthusiastically engage all learners.

Jill quickly asked to become part of student life at the school, and easily slipped into a teacher-advisor role for the JMHS
Students Council. I am confident that her desire to be a part of school life and work with and get to know students outside
of the formal class setting will be an asset.

Although new to the profession, I am confident that Jill will devote the time and effort necessary to engage and encourage
learning in her students and that she will quickly become a valuable, contributing member to any school she works at.

Thank you,

Mrs. Keri Helgren
