Pre-assessment: Students will watch The Animated Hero Classics Harriet Tubman prior to this activity. Teacher asks What are
some questions you would like to ask Harriet Tubman? Student responses using the 5 Ws anchor chart. Teacher will write down the
questions on a the board.
Engagement: Tell the students they are going to meet Harriet Tubman today and will be able to ask her some questions.
Activity: Students will ask Harriet Tubman questions (HOT SEAT) about her life. Then the students will write a an informational
piece using story starters (I saw, I heard, I felt, I did). The students will share their writing.
Closure: Students will share 1 new fact that they learned about Harriet Tubman.
Assessment: (Review of Anticipation Guides; Post-tests; BCRs; Quizzes; Tests; Projects; Essays: Performance Assessments, etc.)
The students writing piece and questions that they asked.
Differentiation:
Small group writing support and natural differentiation based on ability to ask questions.
