CFC Kids for Christ

Liturgical Cycle A
Senior Kids Monthly Assembly Topic

FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH

I. PROCLAMATION STATEMENT: I will listen more to Jesus!

II. VALUE: Being prayerful

III. OBJECTIVES:

- To teach the kids the value of being prayerful.

- To lead the kids to listen more to Jesus as they pray.

IV. SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 17:1-9

The Transfiguration of Jesus.[a] 1 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led
them up a high mountain by themselves.[b] 2 [c]And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like
the sun and his clothes became white as light. 3 [d]And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I
will make three tents [e] here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. 5 While he was still
speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, [f] then from the cloud came a voice that
said, This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. 6 [g]When the disciples
heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
Rise, and do not be afraid. 8 And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus
alone.

The Coming of Elijah.[h] 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, Do not
tell the vision[i] to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.

Storyline:

Mountains are very sacred to the Israelites for this is usually where God speaks to His people.
Jesus himself loves to go up the mountain to pray.

One time, Jesus brought Peter, James and John to the high mountain to pray. Upon arriving at the
mountain, Jesus was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became
white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him.

What do you mean by Transfiguration? Transfiguration is the transformation of Jesus into His true
identity that Jesus is the Son of God who became man in order to save us from our sins and so
that we can be with Him in heaven.

Can you describe how Jesus looked like when He transfigured? (Encourage the kids to give their
answers to this question as you show them a picture of Jesus transfiguration like the one below.)

Now an amazing thing happened after Jesus transfigured! Can you guess what it is? God the
Fathers voice was heard from the clouds. Can you remember what He said? He said, This is my
beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. (The speaker may modulate his/her
voice to sound like God the Fathers voice.)

When the disciples heard the voice, they became scared because for the Israelites, fear is the
usual response whenever they are in the presence of God. But Jesus comforted them. He told
them, Rise, and do not be afraid.

Jesus also reminded them not to tell this to anyone until His mission has been accomplished. After
this, they went down the mountain to be with the other disciples.

mentioned, all the Junior Kids will raise their Popsicle Puppets of that mentioned character.
Note: They can do a trial of this before they officially begin the puppet show.

VI. PEP TALK:

Do you know what we remember this month as Catholics? (The speaker may ask the kids.) Youre
right! This month, we celebrate Lent. Do you know what Lent is?
Lent is when we recall the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. Lent begins on Ash
Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday. During this time, we prepare ourselves through fasting,
praying and alms-giving.

For today, we will focus on praying. Do you pray? Who prays every day? What time of the day do
you usually pray? Very Good!

Prayer is taking time to talk to God. Through prayer, we can talk to God about the things that we
are sorry for, the things that we are thankful for and the things that we wish for.

But remember, prayer is also taking time to listen to God. Just like in the Gospel today, we are
being reminded by God the Father to always listen to Jesus. When we listen to Jesus, especially
during our prayer, we get to know Jesus more and discover how much He loves us.

So just like Peter, James and John, let us try our best to listen more to Jesus. How can we do this?

By praying daily
By reading the bible everyday
By attending mass with the family regularly
Can you think of other ways to of listening more to Jesus?

As we enter the Lenten Season, let us remember how Jesus loves us so much and how He wants
us to be more prayerful.

VII. SONG: Ill follow Jesus

VIII. PARENTS FORUM:

1. Today, our children were taught that praying is about taking time to talk to God about three (3)
things: (1) the things we are sorry for, (2) the things we are thankful for and, (3) the things we
wish for.

2. But at the same time, our children were reminded that prayer is also about listening to Jesus
that in prayer, we should not just be the ones talking. We should also make it a point to be silent
so that we can listen more to Jesus.

3. The children also learned how to listen more to Jesus through the following:

By praying daily
By reading the bible everyday
By attending mass with the family regularly

4. This Lenten Season, let us guide and help our children in being more prayerful. Let us also lead
them in accomplishing their weekly tasks this Lent.

IX. FEATURED SAINT:

St. Dominic Savio
(April 2, 1842 March 9, 1857)

Dominic was one of ten children from a

poor family from Riva, Italy.

As a small child, Dominic grew up loving

the Lord. He attended Church regularly
with his mother and was often seen
kneeling before the Tabernacle in
prayer. He even prayed outside the
Church building. It did not matter to
Dominic if the ground was covered with
mud or snow, he knelt and prayed
anyway. He was also always quick to
encourage others to pray.

He was twelve when he studied under

St. John Bosco. He also formed a group
which aided St. John Bosco with his
work with young boys like him. Dominic
dreamed of becoming a priest someday.

But when Dominic was 14, he became

very sick. He died just before his 15th
birthday.

He was the youngest non-martyr to be declared a saint in the Church. He is the patron saint of
altar servers and choir boys.

Dominic would say, I cant do big things. But I want all I do, even the smallest thing, to be for
the greater glory of God.
