SincethedwarfstarismuchcoolerthantheSun,the
dimmingoflighteachtimeaplanetpassesortransits
before the star could be easily recorded from Earth
unlikeincaseswhenplanetstransitaSunlikebright
star. Since the initial discovery of three planets was
made using the Chilebased Transiting Planets and
 PlanetesimalsSmallTelescope,theexoplanetsystemis
calledTRAPPIST1.

Unlikeinthecaseofoursolarsystem,theplanetshave
apparently formed far away from the star and
gradually migrated towards it; they share a similar
formation history with the Galilean moons, which
migrated towards Jupiter after formation. Another
majordiferenceincomparisonwiththesolarsystemis
thetightpackingofthesevenplanetsaroundthestar.

The closest planet in the TRAPPIST1 system takes

just1.5daystocompleteanorbitandthefarthestone
takes20days;theorbitalperiodoftheplanetsisalso

Wetreatinstitutionscosmetically,applyingthe latest
managementglossorcreatingafetishofnumberslike
theritualofrankings.Todayaninstitutionsuchasthe
university is in crisis and yet there is no systematic
response,noreflexivity,nosenseofloss.

The university reflects both a failure of sociological

have nursed little undergraduate departments, one

neglect, death by illiteracy seems to be the quiet
