I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.

This ancient chinese proverb by Confucius perfectly explains one of

our motivations for joining the competition: the nine of us are
studying physics at high school, and we all love it. It is a fascinating
and always surprising subject: learning the laws and principles that
govern our universe is extremely interesting, really a passion that
we all share. But that is just theory. Our opportunities of performing
experiments at school sadly are limited by the lack of time and apt
facilities and tools. Besides, it is impossible for us to experimentally
verify what we have learned about particle physics without CERNs
instruments.
Only by performing experiments will we be able to fully understand
the laws we have studied: thats why we must seize this once-in-a-
lifetime chance to spend a whole week in one of the worlds most
renowned and important physics laboratories. To do so, we put all
our efforts into developing a proposal which we believe to be
perfectly feasible, and we are determined to win, in order to see
things weve been dreaming of knowing for years.

Working for a week at CERN would be a remarkable and

unforgettable experience, one whose memory we would always
cherish. In fact, if we won, we would be able to get in touch with the
real world of science and in its very heart -, as well as to deepen
our knowledge and understanding of one of the most intriguing,
fascinating branches of physics. This would be of great help to those
of us who intend to study it at university and start a career in that
field; moreover, it could spur some of us to make such a decision.
