Peace Church Council Meeting Minutes, April 12, 2017 6:00 p.m.
Present: Jim Johnson, Joyce Hanson, Gaylene Hanson, Charles Johnson, Lois Scherer, Lexi Danner, Tom Gardner, Mari-
lyn Frykman, Pastor Sarah Evenson Visitor: Youth Director, Heather Danner
Chairman Tom called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. with an opening prayer. Chairman recognized Heather Dan-
ner to give her report.
Our Peace Youth Director presented the format of the pending youth group mission trip which will be June 18 th through
June 23rd, 2017. Heather is using Youth Works, a short term mission organization that specializes in setting up life chang-
ing Christ centered trips for teens. Heather presented a formal plan outlining the trip to Kansas City, Kansas along with
the goals for the mission work. The Peace youth will be doing various fund raising projects to support their trip. A mo-
tion was made by Marilyn where the church would supply the necessary balance for the mission trip to subsidize the fund
raising efforts to reach their anticipated expenses. {~$4,000} Second by Lois, MC. Payment for the trip will be needed
by May 2nd. The remaining balance will be taken from the Thrivent account.
Printed secretarys and treasurers reports were presented. Sandy Kashmark gave brief explanation of additional infor-
mation regarding the roof repair fund attached to financial reports. Motion by Jim to accept the March transaction report,
with second by Gaylene, MC
Pastor Sarah presented her report with a dialogue requesting comments regarding our Lenten journey, information regard-
ing Easter Sunday services, and first communion class. The council was asked to seek input from our members re: the
frequency of offering Holy Communion. At present it is scheduled for the first and third Sunday worship services. Pastor
reminded us the tradition varies with the individual churches but to remember to focus that the relationship to Jesus
touches all ages. Pastor will also be doing some teaching commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
Motion made by Joyce to accept all administrative reports, second by Lois, MC.
Old Business:
Roof repair: materials have arrived, awaiting construction.
Bus Update: Tom conveyed information re: the needed wiring repair and will also make an appointment for bus ser-
vice prior to the youth mission trip.
Youth Mission trip: refer to Heather Danners written plans, attached to minutes and to her council presentation.
Church directory: Tom presented information from project leader, Brenda Long. Discussion followed addressing
layout, expansion, and costs with the goal of the directory to be informative re: pictures, contact information etc.
Request to see possible format of directory from the vendor Brenda has contacted. Tentative scheduling dates
may be in August. Tom will confer with Brenda and bring more information back to council for the May meeting.

New Business:
Berheim Scholarship Applications: The council has received applications from three Peace Senior students. Motion
was made by Joyce to award all three Peace students {Devin Schack, Keaton Long, Jacob Combs}, $200.00. Sec-
ond by Gaylene, MC. Scholarships will be awarded at the beginning of the students second semester in college.
Discussion followed re: the continuation of the Berheim Scholarship fund. Information re: these awards will be
given at Senior Sunday Service on May 28th and also sent out as a Council Spotlight focus in the May newsletter.
April fund scholarship balance is $713.37.
Planned Pastor Evenson vacation: April 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.
Confirmation Service is scheduled for May 21st at 8:45 a.m.
Tom announced only one student will be going to bible camp from Peace.
New member Sunday scheduled for May 7th 2017.
John Zdrazil will be conducting the Old Settlers Service on June 25th. Joyce Hanson will inform community organiz-
ers.

Lets Build Kits of Care!


Our congregation is collecting items to assemble Personal Care,
School, and Baby Care Kits to donate to Project Promise, a project
of Lutheran World Relief. Our kits will go around the world, helping
people in need provide for their families.

YOU CAN HELP! To find out what items you can donate we have lists
for each kit in the front entryway.

Old Settlers weekend is June 23rd-June 25th. Sunday worship


services will be at the Pavilion at 11:00am with John Zdrazil.
WELCA will be serving pie and ice cream; watch for sign up sheet
for donation of pies.
