Unlawful Segregation

In many regions around the world there is misconduct and maltreatment toward

embattled races. There have been numerous unethical cases involving African Americans and

Police Officers. Racial profiling is unnecessary because it breaks the trust within communities

and police officers and also shows the segregation that still exists between people of color.

Communities have lost faith in their local police force. According to the article Racial

profiling has destroyed public trust in police. Cops are exploiting our weak laws against it by

Ranjana Natarajan, she states, African Americans and Hispanics are disproportionately likely

to be stopped and searched by police, even though theyre less likely to be found possessing

contraband or committing a criminal act. It is corrupt to discriminate against an individual who

has not shown any misconduct. Racism makes it difficult for communities to have trust in their

police officers because people of color are being targeted for unlawful reasons.

Many improper actions have been taken by police officers within the pat year. In the

article Racial profiling in L.A.: the numbers don't lie by Ian Ayres, he reports a statistic taken

in 2015 that shows stopped blacks are 76% more likely to be searched, and stopped Latinos are

16% more likely to be searched than stopped whites. These numbers display the separation that

still exists between races. Police clearly discriminate against specific races and it stands to be

acceptable in specific jurisdictions.

Each police officer is entitled to their own principles, however some view things

deceitfully. In the article Theory and racial profiling: Shortcomings and future directions in

research by Robin Shepard Enge she states, this issue is overwhelmed by the unsupported

assumption that all race-based decision making by police officers is motivated by individual

police officers' racial prejudice. All discriminatory acts are based upon the police officers

distinctive opinion. Police officers base their judgments towards races upon what they believe in.

Ultimately with this information we see how the separation still lays amongst many

different races. The way that police officers handle people of color creates a barrier between the

individuals in certain communities and their protectors. With this being said, racial profiling is

extremely unnecessary due to the fact that it makes police officers look racist, and also creates an

obstruction between societies.
