Procedures (step by Anticipatory Set (Connection/Motivation) What will you do to get childrens
step) attention, or to introduce children to this learning activity? Describe the process
in getting them interested and engaged.
Teacher will invite children to look at themselves in the mirror. What do they see?
What features do they notice on their own faces? Where are their eyes? What
color are their eyes? Noses? Mouths? Etc. What do they notice about their
features? What shapes are they?
After looking in the mirror and discussing, their own features teacher will ask
each child to draw his/her own face.
Teacher will encourage children to include the details they noticed and discussed
when they looked in the mirror. Invite the children to dictate their thoughts about
their self-portraits to you with prompts such as, Tell me about your self-portrait.
This will be a small group activity, that way teacher can have closer interactions
with the students.
Closure (sharing/reflection, next steps)
Reflect with the children on why these features are important. What do eyes do?
Noses? Mouths? How could they draw these features?
Follow up/Extension How can I provide an opportunity to remediate, reinforce, or expand on students
activities learning today in class?
During closing circle time, at the end of the day, teacher will go over what they
did in small groups, the selfportrait. She will present to the class the self-
portraits all the students drew, and go over what features they drew.
