Look at the birds of the air; they do

not sow or reap or store away in

"Seeking to be a worshipping fellowship, experiencing the awareness of God,

recognising His person and responding to His leadership"
Church Letter July 2010
Halfway through the year and as a church we have much to be thankful for.
During June, a successful Garage Sale held over two Saturdays made
contact with a number of people and was able to assist them as well as
assisting with the practical needs of the church.
School holidays fill much of this month, so some activities will be on hold.
Remember those travelling, participating in camping programs, and
Jonathan Harris who is in Brisbane for the next 5 weeks as part of his final
requirements for his pre-flight external studies program.
The verse for the month highlights one of the symbols of scripture. God’s
provision for all creatures of His creation is certain and expressed in the
words “The birds eat what they have never had to sow.”
To people, God gave a greater autonomy; to think and create, to make and
to build, to organise and to plan, to invent and to destroy, and to experience
a much broader range of emotion and feeling, culminating in the ability to
decide on our own destiny.
While the birds eat God’s provision, the Children of Israel ate manna; God’s
provided food that sustained them for forty years of wandering in the desert.
Many would say that it is just the provision of nature and deny the influence
of God.
Today, people are focussed on the material aspects of wealth creation and
salary justice and rightly fear the changes to circumstances about which
they have no control. You only have to listen to the news or read a paper to
see what is thought to be important information to be shared across the
world.
One of the best reasons to regularly attend a church is to share with others
a different perspective on life. Jobs, salary, family, housing, health are all
important but are placed in perspective when we consider our place in
God’s plan.
This is because, as spiritual and physical beings, we need food that
nourishes both parts of the body.
Mt 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread
alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
Over the past six months, as a church, we have been blessed with a variety
of thoughtful, bible-based sermons from within our own membership and by
Phil Hirons, Perry Smith and Mike McClure.
The current program runs through to the end of August and shortly work will
commence on arranging the next quarter.
The words of a sermon are only as good as the digestive process of the
mind that receives it and derives from it strength and direction in life.
I recently had a chuckle after receiving this perceptive quote, attributed to
N.A Prichard, in an email and share it with you for the ‘picture’ that it
conjures up.
"Perhaps those who say they didn't get a thing out of the sermon
didn't bring anything in which to take it home."

So I return to where I started. God provides for His creation and His people
sustaining them with food both physical and spiritual.
