I. Course Number : English 9 Credit : 3 units


II. Course Title: The Teaching of Speaking Pre-requisite : None
III. Course Description:
This is a three-unit major subject for BSED English major
students. This subject focuses on speaking - the techniques and strategies,
concepts and theories, as well as its testing. The students are exposed to
various classroom situations where speaking is highlighted. At the end of every
unit, students are required to submit a lesson plan based on lessons learned in
the classroom. This lesson plan will be used for a practice teaching
demonstration.
IV. Course Objectives: At the end of the course, the students can:
A. Cognitive (Knowledge) :
1. Identify and describe the several theoretical foundations of language
learning.
2. Gain knowledge in and understanding on choosing the most
appropriate teaching strategy to develop students speaking skills.
3. Construct lesson plan which focuses on student communication skills
and maximizes a technique and strategy that taps students
speaking engagement.
B. Affective (Attitude) :
1. Develop appreciation for the effective use of communication and
interaction not only in the classroom but also on their day-to-day
conversation.
C. Psychomotor (Skills)
1. Present oral interpretation and perform speaking activities with
confidence and gusto.
