It is the waning days of the 19th century. Her Majesty, Queen Victoria has been on the throne of the
British Empire for the past 6 decades. The Empire is at the highest point it has ever been in, and
continues to grow.
Tribute comes from nations around the world. The sun does not set on the British Empire.
But yet, these are troubling times. Inexplicable events occur that seems to defy the scientific advances
of this Great Age.
Character Notes
Background
Character Background defines the characteristics of the player's character. His fears, aspirations,
hopes and dreams. Even the way she treats the rest of the party. All these comes from the
background.
Gameplay
• Size (SIZ)
How big your character is. This has an influence on what kind of places she can get into.
• Intelligence (INT)
How well the character can deduce things.
• Power (POW) (can also be called Will (WIL))
Mental strength. This determines how strong your mind is. It also determines magic points
if any.
• Appearance (APP)
How good do you look? Or do you look menacing.
• Education (EDU)
How much do you know? Did you go to school, or was it the university of hard knocks?
In our system, you get a total of 56 points, with a minimum of 4 points and max of 10 in each
characteristic.
There are also secondary stats that are based on the above base stats.
• Magic (MAG) – is equal to POW
• Hit points – CON x 2 + SIZ
• Sanity – POW x 10 (it can go above POW x 10 but never above 99)
Combat and actions are judged the same way as the rest. The new thing here is sanity
When you Creeping Things, or Un-named Horrors From The Dawn Of Time, you take a sanity hit.
How well you cope with it and, by extension, how much sanity you lose is based on your POW score.
Roll above your POW and you lose sanity. Roll below and you may still lose a few points. Roll
sufficiently below, and you may just go “hmmm” and walk away. Some things are an instant and
unsaveable sanity hit. Lose more than 10% of your sanity in one go, and you lose 1 POW.
Character Background
One of the basic character settings is Background. And part of it is a social trait
• Recluse/hermit
• Townsman
• Urbanite
A recluse is a person more used to living by himself with minimal human interaction. As such, he will
not suffer from loneliness. He may have issues with being in crowds. (And if you figure you can ignore
this alignment because there is always a party around you, don't. Trust me on this one)
Examples: Hermit, explorer, scientist/researcher
A townsman is neutral. He comes from a town and is equally at home in either location. So he may not
feel loneliness less, and he may deal with being in a crowd better than the recluse.
Examples: Peer, landowner.
An urbanite feels at his best in a crowd, and is good at reading the crowd, as well as recognising and
facing the dangers of urban life.
Examples: Socialite/dilettante
Your Background also defines what kind of skillsets you have.
