With the highest fuel efficiency and lowest life-cycle costs in its
class, GE Transportations reliable 7FDS medium speed diesel
engines provide maximum availability and minimum maintenance
costs. Available in 8, 12, or 16 cylinder configurations, these diesel
generator sets run from 900 to 1000 rpm and with generation
voltage up to 13,800 kV.
Ideally suited for continuous prime, peaking, and black start
operations, GEs 7FDS generator sets offer a full range of power
solutions from 1.2 to 3 MW in enclosed and non-enclosed config-
urationsproviding reliable power for utility and industrial appli-
cations, and oil and gas fields.

A heavy-duty cast mainframe with fully sectionalized power
assemblies simplifies maintenance, provides easy removal,
and minimizes parts inventory levels. Designed for a 20-year
lifetime with extended maintenance intervals, GEs 7FDS
engine is specifically engineered to meet the demands of
power generation. These rugged, durable systems allow:
Continuous operation in a desert environment
(with a cyclonic or paper type air filtration system)
Uninterrupted operation during and after hurricane
force winds
Standard heavy duty cooling system up to 50C
with no derate
Flexible operation in island mode, load share, black
start, or parallel to utilities
GEs engines are designed with ease of maintenance in mind.
The power assemblies can be easily exchanged, cylinder
heads are welded to the liners to avoid gasket leakage, and
sectional camshafts are easily accessible through large
crankcase doors.

The turbocharger for the 7FDS diesel is designed with GEs proven
aircraft engine technology. Due to its critical nature, this compo-
nentwhich is subject to severe thermal stressesis manufactured
in-house to assure quality and reliability. On every 7FDS unit the
turbocharger is properly matched to the engine for efficiency,
performance, and mechanical packagingand driven by a single
exhaust to provide higher mission reliability.

engines meet the latest emissions requirementsincluding MARPOL,
EPA Tier I and EPA Marine 2007 Tier IIproviding our 7FDS engines with
NOx emission levels below 8.6 grams per horsepower-hour.

Our PowerStarTM controller (available with multiple customized pro-

tection options) houses the electronic governor unit, speed reference 12 cylinder GE 7FDS diesel engine.

low oil and water pressure, and positive crank pressure. To assure
optimal engine operation and reduce fuel consumption, this unit also
determines the amount and timing of fuel injected into each cylinder.
