The Mural We Are Not A Minority by Mario Torero is a painting that has the words We Are
Not A Minority with a brown skin man which in fact is Che Guevara, who was a major figure of
the Cuban Revolution which fought for the idea of socialism which ties into the mural
explanation of We Are Not a Minority. The artist does a wonderful way of making the quote
having a strong interpretation that gets to the point. This mural perfectly relates to me because I
am considered a minority in addition plays a role in today's society. Minority group often gets
predetermined by society along with repeatedly reminded of our place with the constant judging
us by one individual or a group actions which then affects the race itself to look bad. A Change
The way Mario Torero painted the Mural We Are Not Minority is by breaking into parts.
Beginning with the first two words WE ARE in a cursive font with black letters which in fact
according to Color Psychology.org is usually associated with power and doing that he creates a
concept of being or fighting together will make us powerful. Following in the next line is Not A
in bold red letter that I feel represent alertness because we are used to seeing red light or stop
signs to be represent as alertness ,so when you see those letter it makes you think that be alert to

these particular words . Lastly, in the last line is Minority in bold white letters which represent
equality. He breaks down the words We Are , then Not A , and finally Minority one after the
other making the font bigger and bigger to make the main issue which is the word Minority the
biggest font. My final thought of Mario Torero mural that he did a great job on making every
important part from the smallest little detail or details you do not realize till you stop and
actually pay attention to and important factor to idea of We Are Not A Minority.
This mural also can be related to the poster of Uncle Sam and the iconic Propaganda Poster.
That was use to recruit Americans for war with the famous saying of I Want You for the US
Army. Instead of using Uncle Sam , Mario Torero , uses Che Guevara: The Guerrilla Leader
additionally Che Guevara was part of the Cuban Revolution which in some eyes he was a hero in
parts of South America or Latin America. Replacing Uncle Sam and his iconic pose of pointing
at the viewer to get American to join the army and making Che Guevara pointing to viewer to get
the minority group to believe him . Which makes the minority group believe that there more than
the word minority and to follow his ideological idea that we need to be treated the same.
With today's society the minority group are continuously being prompt of our place with
constant bad remark that affects the whole group even if its one individual doing or a group
action that are unpleasant can cause a bad reputation for minorities. In the article 9 Outrageous
Things Donald Trump Has Said About Latinos has many anti- Latino remarks that Trump has
been reportedly to say or announce in social media that Latinos are drug dealers, rapist, and
killers. We can presume that some of it is true that illegal immigrant can be killers, rapist, or

drug dealers , but we can not say that all Latinos do these crimes. When Trump makes his
opinion on Latinos to a wide population it create a concept that Latino are criminals, but most are
not. It's understandable that when you a hear this from someone like Trump announce this
negative ant-Latino comments you can believe it, since he is a president. This backfire the Latino
in a way that creates a concept of Latinos always being a minority in a video in the Huffington
Post called 10 Latino Stereotypes That Must Go has stereotypes in movies on how the media
preview the Latino culture. Either by having a huge family , being a drug dealer, being a maid,
and all Latinos are Mexican. These stereotype are being shared to a wide range people that can
now assumed what Latinos are like due to the lack of divisity in some states. This stereotype of
Latinos plays a huge role on society now and days, whether through movies, news, or radios, so
how can the youth progress if they constantly reminded that we have the same roles all the times
by seeing those roles being played by Latinos and seeing our great Leader Trump with his
Overall, this mural effectively proves that We Are Not A Minority and in my opinion, we need
to empower youth not to believe in getting predetermined by society. Not all Latinos are
criminals and have proven in many cases that we did not come to this country to do illegal
activities, but for better opportunities, life and etc . Latinos make a positive contribution to the
life and culture in America. For example: Cesar Chavez ,a Latino came to America , not to drug
deal or rape, but came to work and became a civil right activist, fighting for what he believed
was the right thing to make a Union for farm workers who fought to provide fair wages. We have
to encourage the minority youth that Si Su Puede ( yes we can) from the words of Cesar

Chavez. Latino are part of the fabric of the US, becoming the largest minority group reported by
Census Bureau. CNN has an article name Hispanic In The US Fast Facts and reported from
Census Bureau that an estimate in 2026 that 28% percent of population would be Hispanic /
Latino. Slowly we are getting bigger in number in the US and will be a day where Latino will not
be a consider a minority but a majority of the US population, till that day comes, we have to
continue to better progress ourself and changing the status quo of Latinos.
