Education

Accomplishments I was educated by my godfather/chief

minister Jules Cardinal Mazarin.
I was appointed king of France when 5 years old I also received a practical education in
I helped expanded French borders history, diplomacy, war, and the arts.
I helped make France wealthiest state in Europe

Failures

I revoked the Edict of Nantes, leading to 10,000 Huguenots leaving France

(although depending on your views of the Huguenots this could also be a
success).
My decisions also may have led to disastrous wars with the Dutch and English.
However, these wars did help in preventing a dominating power in Europe,
which to many is a very good thing.
Dear Selection Committee,
As you may have realized by now, I, Louis XIV, am applying for the role of absolute ruler in
your county. I believe that I would make a remarkable ruler for your country for many reasons.
The first and foremost reason being that I was quite literally born and raised into the position.
Ever since I turned 5 years old I have been leading France as its ruler. Growing up I have studied
history, law, diplomacy, and even the arts to help shape me into the ruler that was required of
from France. The other reason that I see myself as a competent ruler is that I am not afraid to get
my hands dirty to do what is best for my people. Just ask the Huguenots. I saw those French
Protestants as a potential threat, so I eliminated their civil rights by revoking the Edict of Nantes,
leading to more than 10,000 of them fleeing.
As ruler of France I have had many great successes during my reign. One of the most important,
in my opinion, is that I led the state into becoming the wealthiest in Europe. I did so by following
the principles of mercantilism to bolster our economy. Also, I cleared off land to be used for
farming, as well as to encourage business and industry. Another great success of mine was that I
helped expand the French borders, which I accomplished by utilizing Frances many resources
unto wars to gain territory.
I believe that I am a far superior ruler and candidate than my opponent, Charles I. All my
decisions when it comes to the economy and military have been to better the state that I ruled.
Charles, however, is a selfish man who does whatever he pleases to achieve his agenda. A
primary example of this is Charles decision to dissolve Parliament after he got the money from
the Petition of Rights. He acted selfishly to profit from the raise in taxes. Another example of
Charles selfishness is that he would simply imprison whomever he wished without a fair trial.
Time and time again Charles I has proven himself to be a self-absorbed, cruel, and over-all bad
ruler. I, on the other hand, am an honest man and will make sure that every decision I make is to
make the state of which I am ruling a better place. I hope you take my candidacy into deep
consideration, and thank you.

Sincerely,
Louis XIV
