Carl and

Carlo the
cuttlefish
Written and illustrated by
Siraj Faruqee

Reading level: 6th grade

Once, in a
reef, there
were some
cuttlesh
One of them
was named
Carl
Carlo and his friends were
normal and just like the rest
Carl was always special,
and wasn't always a
favorite
Every since he was born,
he could change his
shape and color
One day, crabs, which was the only
thing they ate, became hard to nd
Now the normal
cuttlesh, like Carlo,
got hungry
So Carlo and a lot
of normal friends
had to leave the
reef
But Carl was
special and the
things that
made him
special, or
adaptations,
let him sneak
up and scare
the crabs so
he could eat
them
So he could stay and
had a big family...

And his kids were just

as special!
And many years in the future there were
many more special cuttlesh sh in the
reef than there were normal cuttlesh
