THE TOURNAMENT... THEN AND NOW

In its inaugural year, the West Coast Classic featured 60 PGA Tour pros and prize money of
$500,000 US. Veteran Scott Hoch captured top prize of $100,000 by defeating fellow American
M Scott Verplank in an exciting four-hole playoff. It was Vancouver's first exposure to big-time golf
since the Canadian Open at Shaughnessy Golf Club in 1966. A long wait indeed but worthwhile

L considering reaction from the gallery, media, players and sponsors.

The 1995 Classic enjoyed the whole-hearted support of golf s biggest draw John Daly. When John
won the 1995 British Open Championship and gained an automatic berth into the World Series of
Golf in Akron, Ohio, it created a dilemma for organizers. Since the World Series of Golf was to be

r held on the same weekend as the Classic, Daly's participation was thrown into doubt. Good to his
Mrt
word, Daly agreed to attend the Classic if the tournament dates could be shifted.

The rest is history! Daly attended, drew a massive following and in his words "enjoyed the entire
experience tremendously. The whole area is so beautiful, everyone was so friendly, and I know the
players loved the way they were treated."

Staging a major professional golf tournament in Vancouver was a monumental achievement.

Tournament Chairman Brian Slobogian, one of Vancouver's leading business figures, returns in '96
to provide his leadership, vision and financial support.
M i l

Independent Television Producer Douglas Smith, who managed TSN's coverage of the 1995 Classic
for Pro-Am Productions Inc., has taken over the all-important position of Executive Director. His
m credits include NBC's Emmy-winning coverage of the Gatorade Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii.
Doug's enthusiasm and experience will no doubt prove invaluable.

(^ Organizers of the 1996 Classic have changed the format of the tournament to build on the
worldwide popularity of the Ryder Cup and Presidents' Cup team competidons.

Peter Jacobsen Productions Inc. will again manage site operations. They have been instrumental in
making The Fred Meyer Challenge in Portland, Oregon the most successful non-PGA Tour event in

L America. Not so coincidentally, The Fred Meyer Challenge is also a team event.
This year's tournament will feature 12 top-name pros competing in a two-man team competidon
over 18 holes on Canada's Victoria Day Holiday. The format of 6 holes of scramble, 6 holes of
* alternating shots and 6 holes of best-ball resembles Greg Norman's Shark Shootout and should prove

exciting and unpredictable for the gallery and the national television audience. Eight other PGA
Tour pros will be added to the player roster for the Classic Pro-Am the following day.

THE TOURNAMENT... THEN AND NOW

The generous support and commitment of national and local sponsors is testament to the prestige
and value of the West Coast Classic. Corporate sponsors, their families and guests truly enjoy the
once-in-a-lifetime experience of rubbing shoulders with some of the most entertaining players in
golf.
The vision of the West Coast Classic will remain firm. We wish to provide a top-flight professional
golf tournament that is fun for everyone involved; our fans, our television audience at home, our
trusted sponsors and support staff, and our players. Supporting local charities is our highest
priority. Last year, the West Coast Classic presented a cheque of $25,000 to the Zajac Foundation of
Vancouver.
nhil
This event is more than just a golf tournament it is a unique and powerful marketing tool that
enables companies to associate corporate and product identity with a proven, high-profile event.

Companies seeking exposure through involvement with our professional golf tournament have many
different levels of participation available to them.

THE MEL ZAJAC FOUNDATION

ill
The Zajac Foundation is a non-profit organization formed in 1987 to honour the deaths of Mel and
Irene Zajac's two sons, Mel Jr. and Marty. Both were scholastic and athletic achievers whose lives
| y came to tragic and untimely ends.

The purpose of the Foundation is to meet the needs of British Columbia children who are chal
lenged by mental and physical disabilities. The foundation provides a framework for capitalization
of special projects and funding which assists the youngsters in reaching their full potential.

The 1996 West Coast Classic will present a charitable donation to the Zajac Foundation to support
the VanCity Place for youth, a new, multi-million dollar facility providing safe, affordable housing
for underprivileged young people.
NORTH SHORE DISABILITY FOUNDATION

The North Shore Disability Resource Centre Association was established in 1975 by a group of
concerned parents, professionals and advocates. This group was determined to address the need for
respite care, community-based residential services and social-recreational supports for young people
with physical disabilities. The NSDRC now supports over 200 children and adults with various
disabilities who live on the North Shore.

The NSDRC provides programs and services based on the belief that all are important to their
community. They work to ensure that people with disabilities, along with their families and friends,
can participate actively as members of the community. As the NSDP.C enters its third decade, it
continues with the strong commitment to its mission: Working for a community formal!

THE CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION

provides a wide range of services to emotionally and physically abused children, primarily in the
6 to 12 age category. It provides services such as receiving assessment, residential treatment, family
counselling and foster care for tip to 25 children, many of whom are on a place of last resort' basis.
The Children's Foundation has been a pioneer in the treatment and care of emotionally disturbed
children in British Columbia. It is recognized as one of the leading residential agencies for children
in the province. In the past 35 years, the Children's Foundation has graduated' well over fifteen
hundred children, who, with special intervention, have gone on to enjoy happy, productive lives.
