Priming Fuel System

DO NOT work near the fan with the engine running.

warning. Anyone near the fan when it turns on could
be seriously injured. Before turning on the ignition, be
sure that no one is near the fan.

Unlock the hand pump by turning the handle


counter-clockwise.
Pump the hand primer until the force of pumping
increases.

Note: When the fuel system is empty, 200 or more


pump strokes may be needed to properly prime
system.

Note: There are NO bleed nipples to be opened to prime


the fuel system.
Lock the hand primer pump by retracting it into the
housing and turning it clockwise.
Start the engine and run it at an increased idle speed
for approximately 5 minutes to remove any remaining
air in the system.
Check the fuel system for leaks.

Drain the Water Separator

Switch for draining water separator

A symbol displayed in the instrument panel indicates when it is recommended to drain


the water separator. Stop at the first opportunity and drain the water separator. If the
warning symbol frequently recommends that the water separator be drained, then
there is a problem with the fuel quality. Drain the fuel tank and refill with fuel of the
correct quality.
1 Stop the vehicle.
2 Apply the parking brake.
3 Switch off the engine.
4 Place a container under the water separator (left side of the engine).
5 Turn key counter-clockwise to the Radio, Accessories position (see page 4).
6 Press in the switch on the dashboard.
7 Wait until the water has stopped draining.
8 Empty the container in a place where the contents will not cause environmental
damage.

Note: If the engine is started before draining is complete the process is interrupted.

Ignition Switch Operation


Please read the following updated information regarding the Ignition Switch and
Stopping the Engine. Disregard information on page 268 & 269 of your current
Operators Manual Publication no. PV77620707968 (07.2004).

The ignition switch is located on the right side of the


steering column immediately under the steering wheel.
Standard equipment is a normal ignition switch.
Note: The vehicle is delivered with 2 identical keys.
If more keys are needed, order them through your
authorized Volvo Truck dealer.

The ignition positions are:

A Radio, Accessories
B OFF
C Drive
Preheat (Volvo engine only) Push key
in. (see arrow indicating push on
key)
D Start

The key can only be removed when in the


B or OFF position.

Operators Manual.
