SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary of the Study

This study was intended to determine the level of the basic English speaking skills of the

ground floor business establishment workers in Gaisano Grand Mall, Catarman, Northern Samar.

Specifically, it tried to first, determine the socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms

of age, gender, civil status, and educational attainment. And second, to determine the levels of

basic English speaking skills of the workers. Likewise, it sought to find if there was a significant

relationship between the speaking skills and the socio-demographic profile of the respondents of

the study.

The research design used in this study was descriptive-correlational. The workers of all

the business establishments located in the ground floor level of Gaisano Grand Mall Catarman

served as the respondents.

For the statistical tools, it applied frequency counts, percentages, means, and multiple

regression analysis.

The findings revealed that majority of the respondents are in the age levels of 24-27 years

old, female, single, and are college graduates. And regarding their speaking skills, 73% of them

were rated fairly satisfactory by the English language experts.

The test of relationship between the level of basic English speaking skills and the socio

demographic profile of the respondents showed that none of the independent variables affected
the dependent variable. Meaning, the socio-demographic profile of the respondents has nothing

to do with their English speaking skills.

Conclusion

The findings from this study led the researchers to draw a number of conclusions

pertaining to the basic English speaking skills of the respondents.

Workers in any business establishments should know more about the basic English

speaking skills for they are more focus in communicating with people such as, customers and

clients. In this study, the researchers conclude that there is no significant relationship with the

socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the age, civil status and gender, and

education attainment.

Based on the results obtained by the researchers and interpreted by an English expert, the

researchers concluded that the English speaking skills of the workers are in the average level of

literacy. The workers can both understand and speak the English language. But in terms of the

respondents speaking skills, many factors are to be considered such as the pronunciation,

enunciation, proper stress and intonation. Thus making the findings in the English speaking skills

of the workers to be in average level.

Recommendations

The researchers came up with some recommendations to further enhance the English

speaking skills of the workers of business establishments in the ground level of Gaisano

Grand Mall in Catarman Northern Samar. The recommendations are as follows:

 English is the language that is frequently used for communication and workers are more

on communicating with people, the researchers recommend that business establishments

should focus more in improving the workers English speaking skills by conducting

seminars or programs which aims to enhance the knowledge of the workers about the

English language.
The workers should also practice their English speaking skills to further enhance it. They

should attend the seminars or programs conducted by their establishments in connection

to the English speaking skills.

For those workers who are still pursuing their studies, they must focus on their English-

based subjects for their English speaking skills to improve.

The workers should be exposed in activities such as accommodating foreigners to gain

more confidence in speaking English.

Further studies should be conducted to gain more knowledge related to this study and

formulate some solutions in connection to the problems in the English languages.
