CELEBRATION SLAM POEM TEAM UNDER PRESSURE

KENNETH walks downstage right making eye contact with the audience
DRAKE walks downstage center making eye contact with the audience
GAVIN walks downstage left making eye contact with the audience
EVERYONE looks down
(start speaking slowly)

DRAKE: It has been said that that the most perfect song is Beethoven's, the 5th
symphony
DRAKE STEPS BACK
KENNETH: Its Harmony and rhythm is known to be beautiful
KENNETH STEPS BACK
GAVIN: With every string pulled and every percussion hit
GAVIN STEPS BACK
KENNETH STEPS FORWARD
KENNETH: We can relate to
DRAKE: When I finish a race the people watching dont see the work I put in, they
dont see my strings being pulled and practiced into perfection
KENNETH: When Im done with my recital I feel relieved but they dont always
understand the reason I play
GAVIN: When I get to the bottom of the mountain, nobody sees the risk of injury
that I take every time I get on the lift.
DRAKE: When I think about it, I feel the need to do better, improve
KENNETH: When I think about it, it makes me feel an urge to try to show them what
music is to me
GAVIN: When I think about it, I am not happy and I thrive to become better
DRAKE: I think about my form
KENNETH: I think about my technique
GAVIN: I think about my turns
DRAKE: The thought of getting an injury, and being taken out of the season
KENNETH: The thought of injuring my hand by miscalculating a jump on the rock wall
by an inch and possibly destroying my future piano career
GAVIN: The thought of the damage done to my tailbone when I slipped on a sheet
of ice while going down an easy blue run
EVERYONE: What will happen with our hobbies when we get older
GAVIN: Will snowboarding just become something I did when I was a kid
KENNETH: Will I book gigs or forget I ever fell in love with music
DRAKE: Will I continue to run or will it become just a simple memory
EVERYONE: But we push ourselves in these activities
KENNETH: (Hands in quotations) Gavin, I ran into one of your teachers today. Care
to explain the grade?
GAVIN: Straight As and I must go the extra mile in everything I do
KENNETH: (Hands in quotations) Drake start youre SAT prep
DRAKE: Do I really have to start preparing for college already
GAVIN: (Hands in quotations) Don't forget to do your homework and practice piano
KENNETH: How am I supposed to organize my time to fit everything in?
GAVIN: These are the things our parents and peers push us to do
DRAKE: Is it possible that I won't have time for running, will I lose time for my
passion?
KENNETH: Will music only become a chore? Sometimes it starts to feel like it. I
thought its supposed to set me free
GAVIN: Will I have enough time or money to go to the mountain?
DRAKE: Am I going to be able to run fast enough to continue running throughout
college
KENNETH: How will life pan out? Will I just find another passion. Does anything I put
my soul into matter right now.
EVERYONE: YES
GAVIN: Even if we dont continue these things in our future
DRAKE: They will shape our future
KENNETH: Everything we do right now matters
GAVIN: So my goal right now
DRAKE: My goal
KENNETH: My goal
EVERYONE: is to follow my passion

Element #1 Repetition

For our group repetition, would really add a cool effect. In the examples we saw we liked how it
really pushes the idea of a certain topic or line.

Element #2 Rhythm

Rhythm to our group really keeps it going and like keeps you on track of where the poem is
going.

Element #3 Onomatopoeia
This adds power and imagery to the poem, it almost makes it edgy and it has a really cool
effect.
