MAINTENANCE MANUAL

FOR PANG SUA POND

TENSILE MEMBRANE
STRUCTURE

PREPARED BY:
CHEN JINWEI
06 June 2017
Description of works

The tensile membrane structure comprise of 1 piece of fabric in the free form
shape of high and low points.
The main function of the tensile membrane canopy is to provide shade and
coverage for people against rain and shine and also enhance the aesthetic of
the surrounding.

Material

1) Fabric- PTFE Membrane ( Weikai M602)

2) Connection System- Structure is designed as a steel column support

consists with bracing. The fabric connection to the steel structure is by
means of adjusters connecting membrane plates to the steel bracket on
the steel column.

Inspection

Visual Inspection needs to be checked by the maintenance team. In any case

whereby there are holes or tears or any water ponding found on the fabric,
The operation side needs to inform us on this issue and we will review the
cause of the tears or holes or the ponding issue on site and advise the
management accordingly.
The Inspection can be done at the site by visual checking on whether there is
any holes or tears or water ponding on the fabric.
Visual inspection can also be done to check corrosion of the mild steel
structure. As the structure is all hot dipped galvanized and painted, any
corrosion found shall only be surface rust.
Visual Inspection can be done every 6 months or 1 year, depending on the
requirement of the operation side.

The main visual elements to check is the fabric itself, the adjuster, steel and
edge cables against corrosion.
Rectification works

In any case whereby there are holes or tears found on the fabric, we will
rectify the holes or tears using high frequency thermal tacker. A piece of FEP
tape will be welded to a new piece of similar fabric and this new fabric will
be placed on the holes or tear and weld it to the existing fabric using high
frequency thermal tacker to a degree Celsius of 380 at the underside of the
fabric.

For corrosion, use a steel brush to brush off the surface rust. After that, apply
galvanized paint/spray on the corroded area. Once done, paint it over using
similar paint colour.

Washing of Fabric

There is no standard duration when the fabric needs to be washed. The fabric
need not be washed unless the client feels that the fabric is dirty, if not,
there is no indication on the washing duration.

Washing of fabric can be done by any workers. Scaffolding/boomlift/sissorlift

shall be used as access for the workers to reach to all area of the fabric and
also as access to the top of the fabric. The worker can used water with
sponge/cloth to clean the fabric and later, dry the fabric with clean cloth.

At any point of time if the workers doing cleaning work requires to clean the
top of the fabric, they shall not stand on the fabric as they are not trained to
do so. Only specialize workers will be allowed to stand on top of fabric .
The workers must access to the top by means of boom lift and lift the bucket
of boomlift above the fabric and clean it. Workers can actually use cloth
attached to pole to reach area not accessible for cleaning purpose.
Normally, the fabric tend to be dirty on the underside of the fabric, thus,
cleaning using scaffoldings will be appropriate.

NOTE

DO NOT USE ANY DETERGENT WITH PH VALUE LESS THAN 6 OR MORE THAN
8 ( MEANING NOT ACIDIC OR ALKALINE). ALSO, NO WATER JET TO BE USED
TO SPRAY WATER TO THE FABRIC AS THIS METHOD WILL CAUSE THE FABRIC
TO LOSE THE TENSION VALUE.
