PAGE Installation Manual Surge and Pulsation Control K-Series Dampeners 1.0_ INSTALLATION CAUTION: Donot attemptto precharge any K-Series pulsa- tion dampener prior to mounting the unit into the pump piping system. ‘The Hydhi K-P Series Pulsation DampeneriSurge Stabilizer ‘should be mounted inthe verical postion (refer to Figure 1. 3 and 1-4 for mounting options) with the mating lange con. ‘ection at the bottom. The discharge dampener should be mounted as close as possible to the discharge port of the ‘pump. if possibie, it is advantageous that the dampener be ‘mounted in such a way that the fd stream is directed to- wards the fui opening (see Figures 1-3 and 1-4) for maxi- mum performance, 4.4 Mounting 1.4.1 Install stud botts in the replaceable bottom plate. 1.1.2 Position dampener on gasket and mating flange so that the space between flange and bottom connection is totally equal around the circumference. 41.1.3 Install one lubricated nut on each stud and tighten one turn at atime until dampener is firmly in place. Assure that space between . Rotate backward if the previous step is not ossible until the valve is positioned in the ‘Proper direction (4 turn maximum). After vaiv is in position, tighten lock nut to 20 + 5 bb-tor27 £7 Nem torque. Install pressure gauge so that the face is posi- tioned in such a manner that it will be visible through the valve guard opening: ‘Unscrew lock nut on gauge and thread gauge into tapped hole. 1. Tighten to 20 + 5 fb or27 + 7 Nem torque. © If the gauge is not facing in the proper drec- tion, take the folowing steps: 1) Rotate forward if fess than a % turn is e- {Quired to position gauge in proper direc- tion, 2). Rotate backward if the previous step is ‘not possible uni the gauge is positioned in the proper direction (% turn maximum), 3) After gauge isin position, tighten seal nut 10.205 b-tor27 7 Nem torque. 23.21 Sethe precharge using the precharge instructions given in Section 1 Attach valve guard, and the pulsation dampener is now ready for use 23.20. 2322 2.4 Performance Analysis ‘See also Figure 2-2 for fault analysis tree. 2 Precharge ‘8. When properly installed and precharged, the pulsation dampener ig virtually maintenance free. . The vessel should be checked periodically for Dbroper precharge and leaks. Uniess condi- tions such as ambient temperature, operating Conaitions, or operating temperatures chang ‘checking every six months should be sufficient. 242. Low Precharge Effects: a. Ifthe pre-charge pressure is TOO LOW, the pulsation dampener wil fl with excess fui, thus losing some of the working volume of the {gas and reducing dampener efficiency. . Additionally, excessive flexing ofthe diaphragm may cause premature rubber failure at the neck (oF equator of the diaphragm 2.43. High Precharge Effects Ifthe pre-charge is TOO HIGH, the diaphragm insert will est on the bottom of the dampener, closing off the fluc inlet. b. Until the system pressure exceeds the recharge pressure, no dampening will take place. © During the time the precharge pressure is early equal with the system pressure, the dia- hragm will bounce on and off the inlet oper ing which could affect the service life of the diaphragm, 2.4.6. Precharge Adjustments A. Precharge Low 1. Original precharge may have been too low. 2, Ambient temperature may have decreased. 3. Check charging valve for leaks, ‘8. Apply leak detection fud to threads and valve open- ings. . Tighten loose threads, close valve stem, or replace valve if stem does not close. CAUTION: Mal ‘sure dampener pressure is at zero psig before removing charging valve, 4. Check pressure gauge for leaks. ‘2. Apply leak detection fluid to threads, face, and back ', Tighten loose threads. Replace gauge if leaks Continue. CAUTION: Make sure dampener pres. sure is at zero psig before removing pressure gauge. 5. Check for leaks between cover and body. Apply leak detection fd to studs and cover-body contact surfaces, b. Tighten stud nuts. If leaks persist, remove cover ‘and clean mating surfaces. Reassemble and repeat leak test 6. Check Diaphragm (if all the above fall to find the leak). HW the dampener will not hold precharge pressure, it ‘may be due to nitrogen leaks through the diaphragm. ‘Cheek for evidence of fuid at either charging valve or pressure gauge porthole. CAUTION: Make sure damp- ‘ener pressure Is at zero psig before removing charg- ing valve or pressure gauge. If fluid is present, re- place diaphragm. See Disassembly and Assembly Sections. B. Precharge High 1. Original precharge may have been to high. 2. Ambient temperature may have increased, Release pressure, 3. Diaphragm may be trapping pressure (system fluid) when pump is shut down, This will be indicated by & higher than normal pressure reading on the gauge hich is usually ofa different value, each time the pump shuts down. This condition usually occurs when the fluid is highly viscous. instalation of a diaphragm stabilizer should cure this condition, CAUTION: Ifitis determined that any items need to be replaced or dampener cover removed, PLEASE FOL- LOW THE DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY PROCE- DURES. eV PAGE 1 Installation Manual Surge and Pulsation Control K-Series Dampeners PAGE! 13 3.0 Physical Data 1 AiO Sones“ Parts and Maaraisf Construction a a ee og j~ SE” Ee” eS |: ‘looove [Se [Be jee” |i i (See ie, ise, |e. les, |} 3 |Seen— ieee [aces eee [eee |! |ktenon eee [ieee |e fee |: SSE fee | See | Sees | ee | fee: = |Szeere eee |e, |e |e | | [= |e. en |e |B [Ee | See 7 Saat are datraisot Construction ie a sy Aor oo ieee ee eee a, || et ip Fa | a iS EE] *eee eee ee i Pyuiais ig 2 &S Es fe : fie jee jee ioe ee |: ie FS RS |: Sr fecal eaten Installation Manual Surge and Pulsation Control K-Series Dampeners PAGE 14 3.2 K20 Series - Parts and Materials of Construction arts Sa ee eT , a ae eer — iy gape | goo [ee ; 4 i js ss ee ee da, i | = he |) } JSclei Seas lel aistetbamedeyteee od 3 (ieee |e” |e? | GS | “| attogocson | Sree | Sree siwors | 3) 2s feet (fees feces fees | 7 Si ee | eee |e fie |: Fiat SEE ees [ieee [ee | | is. =e. | mee. |§ : P/SE ieees | See | See | Seen |S ise eee | Bee |e || | 2.
