Building Supply Network Resilience in the Face of Extreme Events

Abstract (You may provide a 350-words abstract for the paper.):

Over the last decade, extreme weather events have been occurring with greater frequency,
intensity, and duration than in the past, and with an increasingly irregular timing in the course of
the season. Along with billions of dollars in damages to local economies, this shift has also had a
marked impact on the availability of urgent and high-priority commodities such as food and vital
medicines. The model developed in this paper aims at optimizing the inventory and allocation
decisions regarding high-priority items, while at the same time enhancing the resilience of the
supply network. The model is tested with a case study on the 2014 November winter storm in
Buffalo, NY.
