The name of India derives from the word Indo, which comes from the Persian word hindu

Flora and fauna

The territory of India is located within the eco-zone Indomalaya, reason why presents

India's cuisine is characterized by a variety of regional styles and the sophisticated use of
herbs and spices.

Basic staples are made with rice (especially in the south and east) and wheat
(predominantly in the north). Spices such as black pepper, which are now consumed all
over the world, are originally native to the Indian subcontinent.

Many of the Indian celebrations have a religious origin, although some are celebrated
independently of the caste or creed. Some of the most popular festivals in the country
are: Diwali, Holi, Durga Puja, Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Christmas and Vesak.

Arts

The architecture of India also presents great variations at regional level, in addition to that
it contains Buddhist, Muslim and European influences. The stupa, outdoor pagoda,
gopuram and sikhara are the most common types of architecture in India. Famous
buildings in India, such as the Taj Mahal, encourage the development of tourism in the
country.
Indian music covers a wide range of regional traditions and styles. Indian dance also has
various folkloric and classical forms. Among the most well-known Indian dances are the
Bhangra of Panyab, the Bihu of Assam, the Chhau of West Bengal, the Jharkhand and the
Sambalpuri of Orissa and the Ghoomar of Rajasthan. Eight forms of dance, many with
