The country of Guatemala has had a lot of problems with global climate change. This

is because there are many volcanos, earthquake zones and they have a lot of hurricanes. This

climate changes are getting things worse. These conditions are affecting the country because

there is too much rain and sometimes drought. This affects the agriculture in

Guatemala, because if there is too much rain then the plants can not grow and the food can not

be food. Indigenous communities bear the brunt of climate change because they are the

farmers.

Farming is a big industry in Guatemala. They grow coffee, sugar, bananas, and cotton,

followed by hemp, essential oils, and cacao. If they can not grow these things then they won't

have food and they else are going to be losing a lot of money because they will not be able to

sell the products. The Huffington Post say that region has experienced crop losses of

between 50 and 90 percent. People are losing a lot of food and also money.

Guatemala would want the U.N to give them Money in order to help for the climate

change. Due to the effects of climate change, Guatemala had an economic loss...$1.3 billion

dollars. Guatemala need money to buy food for those people who need it. Also to pay for

Irrigation and other supports for farming.

Guatemala will also want to reform and create laws for whole world for climate

change. For example we can create laws that can required people to use different energy

sources like solar or wind or other reusable things. The president of Guatemala For the climate

change summit,Alvaro Colom said, At an international level, we call for all countries to take

precautionary measures to anticipate, prevent, compensate and/or reduce the adverse impacts

and damages caused by climate change. We need to create laws that stop global climate

issues.

Colon said, Although Guatemala contributes with less than a thousandth to the

greenhouse gases, it is one of the most affected countries.. The people of Guatemala are

afraid and the government wants to help them. The people think that the U.N is not doing

enough to help them to decrease the situation and wants them to do more.
