The Royal Childrens Hospital (RCH) provides secondary and tertiary care to children and young people across the
northern and western suburbs; specialist paediatric healthcare to the children of Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and
parts of South Australia; and is the designated statewide provider of services including paediatric trauma, rehabilitation
and forensic medicine. As a quaternary centre for complex cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, the RCH cares for
the sickest children from around Australia.
The hospital employs 4,500 staff and has an annual budget of $540million. It moved to a new, multi-award winning
building at 50 Flemington Rd, Parkville.

The RCH values and pursues innovation, and in April 2016 became the first Australian hospital to implement the world-
leading Epic electronic medical record (EMR). The EMR includes an online portal to give families and young people the
ability to manage and change appointments, quickly receive test results and renew scripts, and review outpatient notes.
The EMR is a major investment in the digital transformation of healthcare: The real-time capture and analysis of data to
drive improvements in care, and ultimately achieve better health outcomes for young patients.

ROLE PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the Simulation Technology Assistant is to provide technical and administrative
support to the Royal Childrens Hospital Simulation Team. This position would suit someone with a
Biomedical Engineering, Audiovisual, Information Technology, or Simulation Coordinator (with technical
experience) background. Additional training in the technical aspects relevant to this position, will be
provided on the job.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Role responsibilities and duties:
1. Manage and maintain the simulation environment prior to, during and at the conclusion of any
simulation based education programs:
a) Booking of equipment, simulation rooms and skills lab
b) Provision of administrative support to the Simulation team as required
c) Set up and clean-up of all education areas (including moulaging of manikins when necessary)
d) Ensuring all required clinical consumables are available

2. Maintain and organise all of the simulation areas in HELP in a neat and orderly manner including:
a) Clinical education areas
b) Storeroom
c) Manikins and part-task trainers
d) Consumables
e) Linen
f) Supporting education materials

3. Managing the operation of simulators and audiovisual equipment in education sessions when required.
4. Providing support to other staff in terms of the technical aspects of operating simulation equipment.
5. Developing technical proficiency with all aspects of operation, and trouble shooting for equipment
failure.
6. Coordinating transport of simulation equipment as necessary.
7. Involvement with research with the Simulation Team
8. Other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


Essential
1. Biomedical Diploma qualifications or equivalent qualifications
2. Technical knowledge and experience working with computers and/or in a hospital environment
3. Strong customer service focus and ability to work within a team
4. Competent administrator experienced with all Microsoft Office programs.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge and Experience


1. Science degree or other relevant tertiary qualification.
2. Interest and experience in interdisciplinary education and simulation
3. Previous work experience within a Hospital or other clinical environment
4. Previous experience or knowledge in simulation technology
