Goa - the Indian Mauritius, is famous for beaches not only in India
but also across the globe. This smallest state of India houses many
beaches and hence is looded with many tourists from various parts
of the world. One can indulge in doing dierent things like taking a

Calangute Beach
Calangute beach is one of the most crowded beaches in Goa and is often referred to as the 'Queen of
Beaches'. Many tourists are attracted to this beach as there are lots of activities that one can do here.
Sunbathing, Watersports, swimming etc. This luscious sweep of silvery sand houses, countless
shacks and picturesque huts that serve food entice people on the beach. The other places that one
should not miss while at Calangute are Kerkar Art Gallery and Church of St. Alex. There is also a
Tibetan market in Calangute.
Agonda Beach
The pristine Agonda beach is the ideal destination for those who want to be away from crowds. It is
ideal for relaxation, sunbathing and swimming. Nearly 3 kms long, it is lined with simple beach
shacks. The beach is hawker-free, which ensures that visitors are able to enjoy themselves without
distractions. It is a nesting site of the endangered Ridley Turtle. Leisure boat rides are available.
Alongside the beach are quite a few decent but simple outlets in which to eat and stay. Not very far
from the beach is the Cabo de Rama fort, which was built by Sambhaji, the Maratha king, in the 17th
century. The Portuguest subsequently acquired the fort and named it Cabo De Rama (i.e. Cave of
Rama on the basis of tales that they had heard from the locals).
Baga Beach
The Baga beach is around 1.5km long and comprises pristine, ine white sand and an authentic local
feel with many traditional huts still being used by the local ishing population. It is famous for its
water sports jet-skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, windsur ing and kitesur ing. Diving
expeditions, trips by boat to nearby islands and dolphin-spotting rides are very popular. The beach is
lined with markets and eating and staying outlets. Not very far from the beach is a river and creek.
This gives visitors the opportunity to relax in still and safe waters.
Betalbatim Beach
Betalbatim beach is accessible by bus from the town of Margao / Vasco de Gama. The beach is
considered one of the most romantic spots in Goa, oering as it does, spectacular views of the sunset,
crystal-clear waters, unspoiled sand and mango and palm trees. The beach is home to a thriving
wildlife population with diverse species of birds and ish, some of which are unique to the area.
Fishing and dolphin-spotting are the main tourist activities at the beach. Visitors often prefer to stay
in the locally-run hotels and beach huts. The beach is not frequented by tourists as much as other
beaches in the state, but that is precisely why it is the ideal getaway for couples and families that wish
to avoid crowds.

Temple of Shantadurga
Shantadurga temple is situated at the foothill of
Kavalem village in Ponda Taluka, Goa. The tale behind
the idol of the goddess Shantadurga holding two
serpents, one in each hand, is that once upon a time a
battle began between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
The battle was so ierce that the Lord Brahma had to
pray to Goddess Parvati to stop this battle and bring
peace, which she did in the form of Shantadurga.

Safa Masjid
This sixteenth-century Islamic monument a venue of
celebration during festivals of Id-Ul-Fitr and Id-Ul-
Zuha, by the local Muslim community. This beautiful
mosque was built in 1560 by Ibrahim Adil Shah, the
Sultan of Bijapur. Adjacent to the elegant structure
lies a 30 x 30 masonary water tank with 'meharab'
designs. Legend also has it that there are hidden
tunnels in the walls of the tank which connects it to a
nearby water reservoir.

Mapusa Market
Friday mornings are full of hustle as large crowd is drawn towards Mapusa Market- the market hub of North
Goa. Usually, it is just another market in Goa but on Friday it is quintessential of a typical busy Goan bazaar.
The market opens early morning around 8 am and one can ind all kind of stalls like ish stalls, fruit stalls,
vegetable stalls, lottery stalls, etc. Dierent types of handicrafts made of coir, clothes stalls, glass bangles,
sausages, meat market are added features of the Mapusa Market.
More Shopping places in Goa includes Saturday Night Bazaar at Arpora, Calangute Market Square
and Margao Market. These markets are illed with plentiful kiosks oering spices, metal, leather and clay
items, carpets, clothes, footwear, beach wear, embroidered textiles, hammocks, accessories etc.

Seafood
Typi ied by the heavy use of coconut and ish in
the cuisine, Goa oers a huge spread of seafood.
The Goan staple food being ish and rice, is also
garnished with a variety of ish delicacies like king
ish, mackerel, pomfret and tuna. Shell ish like
crabs, prawns, lobster, mussels and squids are
enjoyed equally.
Vegetarian
The Hindu Saraswat community in Goa is
predominantly vegetarian with many of them
being pesco-vegetarian vegetarian ish
eaters. Their cooking style is not very
elaborate; however the Goan touch of local
produce is re lected. Vegetarians gorge over
food cooked with coconut, cashews and mildly
spiced curries. Khatkhate, a vegetable with at
least 6 vegetables stew is the most popular
vegetarian Goan dish. Solantule kodi, a spicy
coconut and kokum curry, Ambotik (a sour
curry dish) and the Girem-Mirem (a spicy
curry, which uses jeera and other spices) are
prepared majorly.
Portuguese
The Portuguese have left a strong in luence on the
Goan cuisine. Along with various culinary
techniques, they introduced spices to India. From
Vindaloo to Xacuti, Recheado and Balchao all
recipes are predominant in Goan meals.
Drinks
Goa is highly popular for its low-priced alcohol
relished by tourists and locals alike. Apart from
the synthetic version, Goa produces its own
fermented and distilled alcoholic drink Feni!
With two variants cashew nut & coconut, this
clear potent is delightful. Yet another popular
drink available fresh and freely in the months
leading up to the monsoon Uraak is a cloudy
nectar which is the irst distillate of cashew feni.

Dudhsagar
