About the competition

Since we opened our doors in 2002, Four-S has remain focused on serving the much-
overlooked business and financial advisory needs of the SME sector – the driver of
Indian economic growth. Our unique combination of resources, experience, and

an opportunity to participate in identifying and building tomorrows leading enterprises.

Focusing on SME sector is imperative for India if it wishes to achieve consistently high
growth rates. Identifying fast growing & profitable SMEs and helping them with strategic
and financial advice will go a long way for the bright future of the Indian economy.

SMExcel is a competition designed by Four-S Services Pvt. Ltd to identify such

opportunities in the SME sector in India. This competition is open only to final year
students of the following schools:

IIM – Ahmedabad MDI – Gurgaon

IIM – Bangalore NITIE – Mumbai
IIM – Calcutta NMIMS – Mumbai
IIM – Lucknow SIBM – Pune
IIM – Indore XIMB – Bhubaneswar
IIM – Kozhikode IMI – Delhi
IIM – Shillong IIFT – Delhi
XLRI – Jamshedpur SCM&HRD – Pune
FMS – Delhi JBIMS – Mumbai
IMT – Ghaziabad SJMSOM – IIT Bombay
SPJIMR – Mumbai
Competition details
The target company can be listed or unlisted and should meet the following yardsticks:

Latest turnover of Rs. 200-4000 million

Net profitability of 5-30% percent
Revenue CAGR of 5%+ for the past 2 years

Students can participate in teams of two only. Only second year students are eligible to
participate. The competition will be held in two stages.

Stage I –

Interested teams should send an email to smexcel@four-s.com by July 11th, 2010

consisting of the following –

Three potential targets – include a one-page executive summary on each target,

summarizing key investment positives

Key qualifications (educational background, industry exposure & certifications)

Acceptance of the terms and conditions that are enlisted at the end of this
document

Stage II –

The selected teams will be notified of the target that they should pursue by July 16th,
2010 and assigned an industry expert who will mentor them during the duration of
the competition.

The teams are expected to stay in touch with their mentors regularly to ensure that
their final deliverable is in coherence with expectations.

The deadline for submitting the final investment thesis is August 15th, 2010.

The final deliverable should be an investment thesis of no more than 5,000 words in
pdf format.

The final deliverable must include the following:

 Investment positives
 Industry potential
 Strengths of promoters for high growth in future
 Business model
 Financial performance (past 3-5 years)
 Competitive strengths
 Growth projections
 Key risks
Entries would be judged on the basis of clarity of business model, quality & depth of
research undertaken, proactiveness exhibited, presentation style as well as logical flow.

Top ten teams will be awarded a certificate of merit and invited to pursue investment-
banking activities for their proposed targets along with Four-S Services Pvt. Ltd. Suitable
success fee (5% of revenue accrued to Four-S Services) will be awarded in case of final
conversion of the mandate. Additionally, the top two entries will receive cash prizes of
Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000.

Terms & Conditions

1. Both members of a team must be from the same institute.

2. Teams are requested to adhere to specified page/word limit.
3. Four-S Services reserves the right to accept/reject any team and will not have to
provide reasons for the same.
4. Four-S Services reserves the right at its sole discretion to modify the deadlines or
the structure of SMExcel at any time.
5. Four-S Services will obtain ownership of the final submissions and will be free to
utilize it in any manner deemed fit.
6. Only final year students who have no prior affiliation to Four-S Services are
allowed to participate in this competition.
7. The teams pledge to use only verifiable data for analysis. In case of doubt over
authenticity of the data, the candidature of the respective team can be
cancelled.
8. Four-S Services will not be liable for any expenses incurred by the teams during
their participation in SMExcel unless approved in writing.
9. Four-S Services’ list of final shortlisted candidates and final winners will be final
and binding on all candidates.
10. In case of insufficient participation, Four-S Services reserves the right to annul
the competition.
11. The teams acknowledge that the terms & conditions placed herein are
reasonable.
