Artistic Intention

Group:
The theme of our piece is about how we act differently in front of different people.
We chose this theme because we want to understand this hidden action inside everyone,
which is very interesting. Everybody uses a different face for different person, due to their
personality, hobbies or habits. We want to show this to the audience, to let them look at this
in a different perspective of this interesting feature that everyone does secretly. We hope our
play is enjoyable and could fully express the idea of this theme.

The purpose of our piece is to represent how different people will impact our identity
and the way we act around others. We chose to base our piece off of the influence of other
people because we believe that aside from the stories we tell about ourselves, the opinion of
other may also affect our perspective towards someone or something. Through performing
our piece, we will express how different people take part in shaping our identity through ones
approach or response to different situations and different people. Our audience will be able
to understand why we act differently around other people, like the way we act around our
friends versus the way we act around strangers. We will also be showing our audience how
different people has impacted us through various methods such as their language,
movement, attitude etc.

Personal:
I believe that our own story is created by ourselves, however could be impacted by
those who surround us. The stories that we tell about ourselves shape our own identities, but
our society and those who surround us decides what is acceptable and what is not, thus our
sense of identity is dependent on those who surround us. This can be shown through
everyday life from as simple as a conversation, the way we act around people may differ
depending on their beliefs and/or religion. For instance, I may act differently towards my
friends as I may towards my parents, or even strangers. In front of strangers, I may act shy
or quiet, whereas in front of my family and friends, I will be able to express my thoughts
better and act more like myself.

Our performance will reflect our theme of how different people will impact our identity,
we will be using multiple techniques and dance styles such as: mirroring, hymn hands,
contemporary, hip hop and so on. Through the different dance styles, we will be able to
express each of our identity and the way we act around others. For example, contemporary
may be used to describe shy and quiet, whereas hip hop may be used to describe someone
outgoing and spirited. We will be using different techniques to represent each characters
thoughts towards the the different scenarios that we may include. We will be performing our
piece using a proscenium stage, this is because it allows more realism as the audience is
watching our performance one sided.
