Inspectors as customers
Surprise inspections
conducted on shops
KUWAIT CITY, June 24: Members of an inspection team
from the Price Control Department of Ministry of Com-
merce and Industry pretended to be customers in order to
determine if any shops are taking advantage of the current
festive season to increase the prices of their goods, reports
Al-Rai daily.
With the advent of Eid Al-Fitr celebrations, the surprise
inspections were conducted on shops that sell childrens toys
in Riggae as well as barbershops.
A total of 12 citations were issued for the violation of dis-
playing prices that are not the actual prices of various goods
and commodities. Citations were also issued against some
women spas which hiked the prices of their services in vio-
lation of the prevailing rules and regulations that govern the
sector.
After the raids, Head of the team Hamed Al-Dhufairi said,
Ministry of Commerce and Industry conducts regular mon-
itoring of shops and prices to ensure shop owners are not
manipulating the prices especially during public occasions
such as Eid.
He indicated that some barbershops increase the prices of
their services, taking advantage of the fact that their custom-
ers are under time pressure especially with the approach of
Eid.
Al-Dhufairi afrmed that Ministry of Commerce and In-
dustry is against any unauthorized increase of prices and it
will continue to issue citations against those who violate the
price list set by the ministry.
He stressed the need for the public to contact the Con-
sumer Affairs Department of the ministry through its hot-
line No. 135 to report any price manipulations, affirming
that the department will dispatch its inspection teams to
determine such reports and take further legal measures
after confirmation.

America, the cutting-edge meaning of the First

sleaze. Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler, became a
First Amendment poster boy because the magazine he
was selling was so offensively shabby and low-mind-

for free-speech rights than, say, Playboy.) In our era,
the rough equivalent of Jerry Falwells 1984 defama-

going to get worse, until it eats us alive.
The decimation of Gawker is Exhibit A, and Knap-

and its entire rst hour hour is devoted to chronicling,
in dramatic detail, the 2016 trial that pitted Hogan,

Silence not healthy
In Argentina, soothing
music cures the soul
BUENOS AIRES, June 24, (Agencies): Picture a hos-
pital: the bustle of harried doctors and nurses, time
dragging for lonely patients, and the pervasive sadness
of a place for the sick and dying.
And suddenly, theres music live, classical mu-
sic, the sounds of masters like Johannes Brahms and
Giuseppe Verdi to make it all a bit more bearable.
These unannounced ash
concerts are staged by an or-
ganization called Music for the
Soul, and on this particular day
at Alvarez Hospital in Buenos
Aires the artists are 70 musi-
cians, a choir, two sopranos
and a tenor.
They perform for free, and
most of the time with fellow
musicians they meet for the
rst time right then and there.
The network was created in
Verdi Argentina ve years ago and
now operates in 10 countries across three continents.
It is made up of professionals from prestigious or-
chestras who donate their time and passion to share
the soothing power of music.

ers and has given some 300 concerts in a format that

Google to stop
scanning Gmail
LOS ANGELES, June 24, (RTRS): No,
Google wont stop reading your emails.
And you may not actually want it to.
The search giant introduced a sig-
nicant change to the way it treats
its users emails Friday, announcing
that it will stop scanning the emails of
Gmail users to personalize advertising
later this year.
With that step, Google is getting rid
of one of its most controversial adver-
tising features. Ever since Google rst
introduced its free Gmail email service
some 13 years ago, it has been analyzing
the text of emails to personalize adver-
tising displayed both within Gmail and
elsewhere. Privacy advocates and con-
cerned users alike have long criticized
this as a far-reaching intrusion, but most
other free email services have been do-
ing the same or at least reserved the
rights to do so for years.
On Friday, Google announced that
it would stop personalizing advertising
based on emails in part to more closely
align its free Gmail service with the paid
email service it is offering to companies
through its G Suite service, which was
formerly known as Google Apps.
Google Cloud SVP Diane Greene said
in a blog post that more than 3 million
companies pay to use Google as their
email provider. Google has never used
these corporate accounts for ad person-
alization. By phasing out the practice for
free Gmail accounts, Google is likely
looking to ease any remaining concerns
from prospective G Suite customers.
Does this mean that Google will stop

the menu, the avor proles seemed in-
congruous: Chinese dumplings, and a

weed.
But when dinner was served, the
guests seated and plates bearing foods
of three different cultures shared, it all
made sense.
The meal was part of Breaking

backgrounds together for a meal featur-

barriers you want to erect.
Jews and Muslims have shared Jewish
apple cake and baklava as part of the pro-

and Korean communities have come to-
gether to compare fried chicken recipes.
During the most recent gathering, resi-

communities enjoyed dinner with mem-
