O show no pode parar
Uma das condies para a participao no festival setores da PBH
o envio, pelo grupo, de um rider tcnico, com a
relao das necessidades a serem providenciadas
pela produo local. No FIT-BH 1996, meia hora
antes da apresentao do espetculo Amor
Paregrico, o produtor do grupo Velho Mangaba e
suas Pastoras Endiabradas, do Recife, percebeu
que havia se esquecido de relacionar uma bateria,
essencial banda que acompanhava a trupe do
espetculo. Sorte da produo e do pblico: a de So Jos para a igreja da Boa Viagem e o corte-
apresentao era em Santa Tereza, bairro conheci-
do por sua tradio musical, especialmente como
bero do Clube da Esquina. Desafiada a resolver o
problema em 30 minutos, a produo con-
seguiu no uma, mas quatro bate-
rias, com msicos da regio. Azar

instrumento foi descontado no

Dupla funo
Enormes banners de 6mX5m
foram instalados em pontos
estratgicos da cidade para

divulgar o FIT-BH 1997. Num deles,
o Viaduto de Santa Tereza, a instalao foi
particularmente complicada, exigindo muita nego-
ciao, por ser a edificao tombada pelo desacompanhada, l estava ningum menos que
Patrimnio Histrico.
Autorizada, a instalao foi feita numa tarde,
provocando forte impacto visual. No dia seguinte,
apesar de estar no ponto mais alto do viaduto, a
pea havia desaparecido. Uns dias depois, o mis-
trio foi desfeito: o banner foi visto protegendo das
intempries o teto de um barraco na periferia da
cidade de Sabar. O responsvel pela transfern- to
cia no teve nem a preocupao de dissimular desacompanhada. E assim
sua faanha: com o lado impresso para cima, o
banner continuava a cumprir sua finalidade, divul-
gando o evento, ainda que na cidade vizinha.
Sagrado e profano
Em 1997, a abertura do FIT-BH deu-se num feri-
ado, 15 de agosto, data em que Belo Horizonte ce-
lebra sua padroeira, Nossa senhora da Boa
Viagem. Apesar de
haver diversos
envolvidos,
ningum se deu
conta de que
haveria dois even-
tos acontecendo na

mesmo horrio: a procisso
que levaria a imagem de Nossa Senhora da Igreja
jo do grupo Gnrik Vapeur, com Bivouac, que iria
da porta principal do Parque Municipal para a
Praa da Estao. s 18h, aconteceu o inusitado:
os dois cortejos - o sagrado entoando hinos reli-
giosos e o profano precedido por um barulhento
trio eltrico - se cruzaram, provocando
estranhamento e surpresa em ambos os
pblicos. O episdio gerou carta de
protesto do Arcebispo Metropolitano.

Cumprindo o ritual de passar nos teatros
antes de todas as estrias para dar boas-
vindas aos grupos e checar se est tudo
dentro do programado, o diretor geral do
evento teve uma surpresa no FIT-BH de 1998, ao
entrar no hall do Teatro Sesiminas: incgnita e
Arianne Mnouskine, a consagrada diretora france-
sa do Thtre du Soleil. De frias em So Paulo,
ela dera um pulo a BH para ver seus amigos
cubanos no espetculo Otra Tempestad, do grupo
Teatro Buenda. Cumprimentada, ela respondeu
educadamente, mas deu sinais claros de que que-
ria continuar do jeito que estava:

A arte imita a
vida
Contemplada com o

de um nibus,
alugado pela
produo,
com moto-
rista e tudo,
para servir de
cenrio. O pbli-
co entrava e a
viagem comeava.

Em alguns pontos, os
atores e atrizes subiam no
coletivo, como se passageiros fossem. Saindo de
frente do Palcio das Artes, o coletivo rodava pela
av. do Contorno terminando a viagem em frente
Serraria Souza Pinto. Numa das cenas, uma per-
sonagem feminina sacava um revlver de plstico,
ameaava dar um tiro na prpria cabea e depois
colocava o tronco para fora da janela do nibus e
apontava a arma para os transeuntes. As pessoas
corriam assustadas, os am-bulantes se escondi-
am atrs de suas bancas.
Na vspera da estria, na ltima viagem de ensaio,
110 um fiscal da Bhtrans, ao ver a cena, ligou para a
polcia: um nibus havia sido seqestrado por uma
mulher armada, no Centro de BH. Em pouco
tempo, o coletivo estava cercado por terra e pelo
ar: um helicptero da Polcia Militar sobrevoava a
Praa da Estao e dezenas de policiais apon-
tavam metralhadoras, dando ordens para que as
portas do nibus fossem abertas. Os crachs do
festival que o elenco usava foram o argumento
principal para que a polcia se convencesse de que
tudo no passava de encenao.
Anjos da guarda
Um receptivo tem, durante o FIT, a importante
misso de acompanhar os grupos dia e noite.
Falando a lngua do grupo visitante, importante
elo na sua comunicao com a produo, a
imprensa, os garons, os mdicos - sim, porque s
vezes os convidados vo parar em hospitais, pre-
cisam contratar babs para os filhos, fazem com-
pras, querem visitar o Mercado Central, Ouro
Preto... Tanto cuidado costuma comover alguns
duros coraes dos cerebrais estrangeiros. E
acontece de nascer, dessa breve convivncia, um
tambm breve vnculo afetivo.
Foi com msica folclrica e buqu de flores que o
grupo polons Teatr smego Dnia, responsvel
pelo espetculo Arka, que abriu o FIT-BH 2006,
expressou, na despedida, seu agradecimento
receptiva que o acompanhou. Mas surpresa
mesmo foi o respeitoso beijo na testa que ela gan-
hou do sisudo diretor, no aeroporto de Confins.
Marvada pinga
A nossa popular aguardente foi elemento indispen-
svel para pelo menos dois grupos do FIT-BH
2006. O africano Kofi Kk, alm de velas, toalha
branca e um prato virgem, solicitou produo
trs litros de cachaa da boa. O material era para
ser usado nos rituais religiosos promovidos no
camarim, antes do espetculo As Folhas que
Resistem ao Vento. Apenas os homens - apesar de
haver tambm uma mulher no elenco - podiam
participar. A porta era trancada, e a entrada vetada
at mesmo produo. O estado de transe se
mantinha durante o espetculo e, em alguns
casos, at depois, com os integrantes tendo certa
dificuldade de localizao espacial, necessitando
ser ajudados na volta ao hotel.
J para o grupo Bumba-meu-Boi da Floresta, do
Maranho, a cachaa era elemento de cena
mesmo. Seus 45 integrantes consumiam, por
apresentao, um mnimo de seis garrafas - que
era servida pelo receptivo do FIT-BH em copos
plsticos. A bebida era to fundamental que foi
trazida pelo prprio
grupo.

In a festival with that Bomb
dimension FIT-BH has, it happen, in the The synopsis sent in by Spanish group Smola Teatre about
backstage or even in front of the public, some funny facts
and curiosities, not always caught or divulged. FIT-BH
Magazine 3 has searched many and has chosen some
ones, for the lectors fun:
A prowess
Only one group, so far, has brought to a same edition of
FIT-BH more than two spectacles. The record which hap-
pened in the first edition, in 1994, belongs to Bolivian group
Teatro de los Andes, who presented La Leyenda de un
Pueblo que Perdi el Mar, Ubu en Bolivia and Solo los Giles
Mueren de Amor. In 2006, the group returned with Otra Vez
Marcelo.
Recognized as one of the most expressive and active Latin-
American collectives, Teatro de los Andes, which has as
director the always welcome Csar Brie, will be also seen
in the 9 edition with the spectacle Con un Sol Amarillo,
memorias de un temblor.
Men in black on the run
Surprised to meet them, relieved to see them leave. This
was the reaction from the audience that Belgian group Cie.
Contre-Pour was used to, every time they performed in
Europe. This phrase appeared in the synopsis of the inter-
vention Les Hommes en Noir, which the group brought to
Belo Horizonte in 1996. In it, four men dressed in black,
using the surprise element, appeared at some point of the
city carrying bizarre metallic instruments, creating disor-
der wherever they went.
But here the spell literally turned back on the spell-mak-
ers. The huge audience that went to Praa Sete, much big-
ger than predicted for an intervention, not satisfied only
with watching them, started to participate in the spectacle
and to chase the black-dressed men in their movements.
The situation became unbearable; the guide desperately
asked for security reinforcement by the cell phone.
Frightened, the actors finished the show, desperately run-
ning back to their hotel in the city center. The audience,
even more excited, thought all of that made part of the per-
formance and followed them.
When they arrived at hotel, the men in black threw them-
selves on the hotel sofas, breathless and relieved since the
automatic glass doors protected them. When they looked
back, a smiling crowd with their faces touching the glass,
not yet satisfied, asked for more...
spectacle Hibrid, for FIT-BH 1998, made allusion to alle-
gories, vertiginous movements, impacting images. But
the production did not know that one of the 'impacting
images' was provoked by the explosion, in scene, of a bomb
placed inside a bucket. The result: damage to the stage
ceiling and many apologies offered to the direction of
Palcio das Artes. Besides, of course, the immediate
repair of the damage.
The show must go on
One of the conditions to take part in the Festival is for the
group to send a technical rider containing the list of needs
to be provided by local production. In FIT-BH 1996, half an
hour before the spectacle Amor Paregrico, the producer
of the group Velho Mangaba e suas pastoras Endiabradas,
from Recife, realized he had forgotten to include on the list
a drum kit, essential for the band that came with the spec-
tacle team. For the production and audience luck, the show
was going on in Santa Tereza, a neighborhood known for its
musical tradition, especially as the birthplace of Clube da
Esquina. Challenged to solve the problem in 30 minutes,
the production managed to get not 111
one but four drum sets,
from musicians close
by. The group's

Double
function
Big 6m X 5m ban-
ners were installed at 09
strategic points of the city to
promote FIT-BH 1997. In one of them, the Santa Tereza
bridge, the installation was particularly difficult, demand-
ing many negotiations, because the bridge is a historical
monument under government trust.
Once authorized, the installation was made in an after-
noon, provoking a strong visual impact. The following day,
although it was on the highest point of the bridge, the piece
had disappeared. Some days later the mystery was solved:
 the banner was seen protecting the top of a shack from the
rain in the outskirts of the city of Sabar. The responsible
for the transfer did not have any concern to dissimulate
his feat: with the print side up, the banner kept accom-
plishing its finality, promoting the event even in the neigh-
boring city.
Holy and profane
In 1997 the FIT-BH opening happened on a holiday, August
15, the date in which Belo Horizonte celebrates its patron
saint, Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem. Although there were
several City administration sectors involved, no one real-
ized that two events would happen at Afonso Pena avenue
at the same time: the procession that would take the image
of Nossa Senhora from the Church of So Jos to Church
of Boa Viagem, and the other procession of the group
Gnrik Vapeur, with Bivouac, which would go from the
Parque Municipal main gate to the Praa da Estao. At 6
pm, the unusual happened: both processions - the holy one
singing religious hymns and the profane preceded by a
noisy sound truck - crossed each other in the middle of the
street... provok-
ing strange-
ness and

The incident
generated a letter of
protest from the Metropolitan Archbishop.
Surprise visit
Maintaining the ritual of visiting the theaters before every
premiere to welcome the groups and check if everything
was in order, the general director of the event had a sur-
prise in FIT-BH 1998 when he was walking into the hall of
Teatro Sesiminas: standing unknown and all alone, there
was none other than Arianne Mnouskine, the well-known
French director of the Thtre du Soleil. On vacation in So
Paulo, she had come over to Belo Horizonte to see her
Cuban friends in the spectacle Otra Tempestad with the
group Teatro Buenda. When saluted, she answered polite-
ly but signaled clearly that she wanted to be left that way:
unknown and alone. And so she was.
Art imitates life
Awarded with Prmio Fomento of FIT-BH 2004, the inter-
vention Circular 01 happened inside a bus, rented by the
production with driver included, serving as the stage set-
ting. The audience would get on and the trip would begin.
At some stops actors and actresses would get on the vehi-
cle as if they were passengers.
Leaving from Palcio das Artes, the bus would go by
Contorno avenue finishing the trip in front of the Serraria
Souza Pinto. In one of the scenes, a female character
would draw a plastic revolver, threatening to shoot her own
head and then putting her torso out of the window and
pointing the gun at the population. People ran away scared and
street vendors tried to hide themselves behind their boxes.
The day before the premiere, on the last rehearsing trip, an
employee of the local traffic company saw the scene and
called the police: a bus had been kidnapped by a woman
carrying a gun in the city center. In a few minutes, the car
was surrounded by land and by air: an police helicopter
flew over the Praa da Estao and many policemen point-
ed machine guns, screaming for the bus doors to be
opened. The Festival badges the cast wore were the main
arguments to convince the police that all of what was hap-
pening was nothing but a performance.
Guardian angels
During FIT, a guide has the important mission of accompa-
nying the groups night and day. Speaking the language of
the visiting group, he or she is an important link in the
group's communication with the production, the press, the
waiters, the doctors - yes, because at times the guests
have to go to hospitals, need to hire baby sitters for the
kids, feel like going shopping, want to visit Mercado
Central, the city of Ouro Preto...
So much care tend to touch some hard hearts of cerebral
foreigns. And from this brief relationship an also brief
affective link might appear. It was with folkloric music and
flowers that the Polish group Teatr smego Dnia, respon-
sible for the spectacle Arka, that opened FIT-BH 2006,
expressed their thanks to the guide who accompanied
them when they were leaving. But the real surprise was

For the group Bumba-meu-Boi da Floresta, from Maranho,

the cachaa was a scenic element indeed. Its 45
members consumed, in each show, a mini-
mum of six bottles - which was served by
the FIT-BH team in plastic glasses.
The drink was so fundamental
that it was brought by the group
itself.
